Saving our country

“We have a country to save…. And no intention of giving up”.

These strong words were spoken today by the good Yair, an Israeli patriot from a distinguished family.

I joined the adjective “good” to his first name in order not to confuse it with the “bad” Yair, the vulgar-mouthed son of a corrupt prime minister.

In our March 2 elections I voted for Kachol-Lavan (the Blue and White party) primarily for the personalities who founded it… Benny Gantz, Yair Lapid and Moshe Yaalon. They were persons who I could admire and respect. Clean hands. No contamination with other corrupt politicians. Three men with high ideals who had set high standards for a new government in which they hoped to serve.

Allegedly to serve in an emergency unity government, Benny Gantz prostituted himself by joining a coalition led by his arch enemy, a man who he swore he would never serve with. He lied !

He signed agreements with an indicted corrupt prime minister who is clinging to his hope of being exonerated for his crimes by the court and judges who will prosecute him.

Regrettably, for whatever the real reasons are, Benny Gantz has disappointed millions of us who voted for him. He smashed all our dreams and hope for a change by signing an agreement which has no hope of winning its positions.

Yair Lapid, the original # 2 man in the Blue and White party, has blasphemed Gantz for his desertion of the principles which he once had.

His cry has touched the hearts of many Gantz voters. “We have a country to save…. And no intention of giving up”. Strong words. Genuine words. Patriotic words. And best of all, Believable words.

Yair Lapid sees the eventual dissolution of the new unity government and he, Yaalon, and fellow members of the Blue and White party will endeavor to do everything possible no matter what, in efforts to bring the new government to a swift collapse. Maybe there will be new elections in August after all.

With all his many pre-conditions for joining Netanyahu in an emergency unity coalition, Benny Gantz signed away several of those conditions, thereby giving the prime minister more power.

Gantz will become a puppet dancing with strings pulled by Bibi the puppet-master. Since he has been the puppet of Sara for too many years it now offers him a chance of switching the unhappy role.

With Bibi now enshrined as speaker of the Knesset he can manipulate the rules and laws according to his personal needs, the primary one is to veto the proposed clause that would deny any member of the Knesset who has been indicted on criminal charges to serve as prime minister. That is his # 1 goal.

Gantz, the acting Knesset speaker, has surrendered his vital role and has settled for being minister of defense.

In capitulating to a corrupt leader of the Likud party, Gantz has shown his true colors. His “Word”, his “Promise” is not to be believed.

The man who ran for elections based upon his vow that “I will never sit in a government with Binyamin Netanyahu” and who objected to the coercions of the ultra-orthodox bloc has done a 180 degree turn-around.

His future words are not to be taken seriously. Once he lied he has forfeited the right to be believed.

Moshe Yaalon, one of the three leaders of the Blue and White party, is alleged to have said “Netanyahu is corrupt and Benny Gantz is his litter bearer.”

What is Yair Lapid’s next plan? What does he intend to do and how will he do it? For an answer we must be patient and wait.

In the meantime I support the man who stated “We have a country to save … .And I have no intention of giving up”.
