Sinwar’s death means peace closer than ever
In one of the biggest victories in the war in Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have eliminated Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar. Sinwar was also the strategic mind behind October 7, a historically deadly attack which was dedicated to killing and raping innocent citizens and festival-goers.
Sinwar died a coward’s death. After months of hiding, constantly surrounded by hostages his troops had kidnapped over a year ago, Sinwar was finally killed. He died fleeing for his life, injured, humiliated, and broken.
Strategically, Sinwar’s death is unlikely to change much of the war in Gaza. But at least it scares the living hell out of the leaders of the Iran-backed terror proxies. The top leaders of the terrorist organisations know that like many before them, their end is near.
Since the 7th of October, Israel has assasinated the former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, the potential replacement Hezbollah leader Hashem Safieddine (reportedly), the former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, and now another former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
With each death, Israel is telling Iran; we will never stop fighting to defend our country, and we will eliminate whoever hurts our people.

Responding to Sinwar’s death, US President Joe Biden said, “With our intelligence help, the IDF relentlessly pursued Hamas’s leaders… There has rarely been a military campaign like this, with Hamas leaders living and moving through hundreds of miles of tunnels, organized in multiple stories underground, determined to protect themselves with no care for the civilians suffering above ground.”
The UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer released a video statement saying, “No one should mourn the death of Hamas leader Sinwar. On his hands is the blood of innnocent Israelis killed on the 7th of October and over years of terror, and also the blood of the Palestinian poeple who suffered in the chaos and violence that he sought and celebrated.”
Both America and the UK rightly pointed out that Hamas inflict pain on the Palestinians, as well as the Israelis. Palestinians have been suffering at the hands of the Iran-backed system of terror; living in a Hamas dictatorship and indoctrination, with no hope of creating a better life for themselves.
Now that Sinwar is dead and Hamas is at it’s knees, the war is at a pivotal moment where historical change has the the potential be made.
Continuing President Biden’s statement, he said, “There is now the opportunity for a “day after” in Gaza without Hamas in power, and for a political settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians alike. Yahya Sinwar was an insurmountable obstacle to achieving all of those goals. That obstacle no longer exists.” And in line with Biden, Prime Minister Netanyahu also said that this assassination is the beginning of the day after Hamas.
Israel has the the right to defend herself against existential threats. Simultaneously, there are millions of Palestinians who are suffering every day; they need a state for themselves, a state free of terror, with the opportunities to succeed in life.
Peace cannot come fast enough. Hopefully, Sinwar’s death is a step in the right direction.
