Social Media’s Double Standards

Watching the recent cricket test between The West Indies and England, also the end of the football season in the U.K. and the Formula One motor races recently in almost all these events the participants took to “the knee” as well as printed on their shirts or other parts of their outfits the “black lives matter” logo (BLM). These displays in support of stamping out racism in sport and all other fields of activity.

Some of the larger banks as well as other major corporations in the U.S. and other parts of the world all in synch with what is happening on the sports fields and all in a united display of solidarity against racism be it on the sports fields or other spheres of civil  society, have committed substantial sums of money to support non racialism.

This sudden awakening of something that has been debated for the past how many years but only become a thorn in the side of societies conscience since the tragic death of George Floyd.

Presidential candidate Joe Biden has committed to narrowing the wealth gap between white Americans and communities of colour and pledged $30 billion for the creation of a small business fund (again for minority groups which include Latinos Asians and Native and African Americans). He also moots amongst other initiatives to reforming the criminal justice system. Interesting that this plan aimed at “minority communities”.

The inclusion of Asians amongst this grouping makes for some questions. From what one reads it’s this minority group – Asians, who not only excel academically, outstripping their American counterparts but have excelled in almost all other fields from academia to the business world, setting the bar pretty high for the average privileged white American.

Some noble gestures being put forward by the Democratic presidential candidate and hopefully will yield fruit for all.

“Taking The Knee” broadcasts in the clearest language that racism will not be tolerated, that any form of discrimination must be stamped out  with so many organizations, corporations and civil society committing to the cause should ensure that this credo should become the norm.  There is one glaring contradiction to the call and the movement. The anti-Semitism – hatred of the Jew has found such a comfortable home and is being promoted by the BLM movement who whilst fighting racism has no problem flaunting racism in the form of Israel hatred (read Jew hatred).

Double standards are a fact of life when it comes to anti-Semitism. Social media unashamedly will censure what they perceive to be hate speech but that perception doesn’t stretch as far when it’s the Jewish homeland being threatened with extinction. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms continues to post and promote anti-Israel propaganda under the guise of “free speech” but will gag so many other posts far less hurtful and harmful. The Chief Rabbi of Great Brittan wrote to both Twitter and Facebook stating that allowing anti-Semitic posts on their platforms amounts to complicity. Other calls to social media to remove anti-Jewish hate rants have been ignored by these powerful tech giants. According to a Twitter official, the call by Ayatollah Khamenei for Israel’s destruction is not a violation of its rules of hate speech, but simply view it as “foreign policy saber-rattling, yet a tweet by U.S. President Trump issuing a warning about rioting did violate Twitters rules! Really!! There is double speak and hypocritical speak but Twitter not guilty of either? And yes, some people will buy that.

We Jews are no stranger to anti-Semitism having  learned to live with this virus throughout our history but when the world suddenly becomes holier than thou by ‘taking the knee” against racism, when its BLM that’s the flavour of the day yet at the same time that very same group continues to practice their double standards. “Don’t do to us what we can do to you” being the mantra of taking the knee, must surely require some further debate about the morality of BLM together with those tech giants whose influence over the masses far outstrips any other medium the world has ever known. The real tragedy being that none of the social media giants see any danger with their policies, and Israelis enemies are milking every drop of opprobrium that they can.
