Welcome to my Tech Leaders Interview Series, where I interview impactful leaders and ask them to share tips and techniques that have benefited them, both in their personal and professional lives.

This interview is with Alon Gilady, Co-Founder & CEO of renovai

About Alon:

Alon Gilady graduated with a BA in economics and philosophy from TAU. He is a serial entrepreneur based in Tel Aviv and renovai is his third technology startup. During his last year at university, Alon founded a startup company, with Alon Chelben, in the sports & entertainment collectibles industry. Alon signed big licensing deals with significant brands such as FC Barcelona Man City, NBA, WWE, and Disney, selling over 1.5M units through major retailers in Europe and the USA (Walmart, Target, ToysRUs, Tesco…). In 2017 he co-founded, again with Alon Chelben, a 3D-rendering studio with ten employees. The company created virtual reality experiences for architects and interior designers. From the knowledge and experience gained in this venture, the idea of renovai was born with an ambitious mission: to empower online retailers with AI to make professional design and stylist services affordable and accessible for all.

What are your main productivity tips?

Blocking my calendar for a specific period of time daily or weekly, turning off my phone and shutting out all distractions to be able to go over all my inbox, making sure nothing piles up, and catching up on all my tasks.

What is your favorite drink?

Arak. It used to be the cheapest drink when I was younger, and the taste grew on me.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

I’m not a stressful or anxious person; if it’s not something related to my family, I tend not to take this too hard. My military service was a great learning experience on how to cope with rough situations, so it changed me as a person and the way I deal with things.

Your tips for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Just start doing what you believe in. Even without any experience, if you have an idea, start rolling it out, and things will happen.

Who in the Tech industry would you like to meet for lunch?

Elon Musk, he is the perfect example of dreaming big and accomplishing big time! Plus, the word is that he is a kick-ass engineer, so I would love to hear his thoughts on our product roadmap.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Israel. I believe in traveling the world, absorbing and learning from different cultures, but I feel my roots here are so deep that I can’t even imagine myself anywhere else.

What is your favorite book recommendation?

Business wise; ZERO TO ONE by the legendary entrepreneur and investor Peter Thiel. It has significantly impacted the way I analyze things and strategize differently before I act.

I also studied philosophy, so I have to choose Kohelet by Haim Shapira, giving a different perspective on life itself.

How is renovai innovating the industry?

We deciphered interior design rules and translated them into algorithms, so we can truly personalize online experiences based on knowledge and not on statistical segmentations.

Why are you in Tech?

Leveraging Tech gives you the ability to impact at scale.
