Welcome to my Tech Leaders Interview Series, where I interview impactful leaders and ask them to share tips and techniques that have benefited them, both in their personal and professional lives.

This interview is with Ari Shpanya, Co-Founder & CEO of Loanbase

About Ari:

Formerly CEO and founder of Wiser, an enterprise-focused e-commerce SaaS acquired by Quad Analytix in 2016. Previously Co-founder of Zent, a marketplace for equipment rentals.

Graduate of the GSB Stanford Ignite program.

Contributes and is featured at Venturebeat, Econsultancy, Retailwire, and Forbes.

What are your main productivity tips?

Parkinson law (Tim Ferris writes about it), deep focus sessions during quiet hours (5am miracle is also a good recommendation on that topic).

What is your favorite drink?

Unsweetened cashew milk, I also love raw tahini (roasted ground hulled sesame) and actually drink it; it’s my version of soylent (which is not bad by itself).

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Balance between stress and eustress (good stress).

Your tips for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Keep a work-life balance by taking mini-retirements during the startup journey—lots of mini-vacation during the grind help to keep sanity and allow you to come back focused.

Who in the Tech industry would you like to meet for lunch?

Naval Rakivant, Patrick from Stripe (he’s a machine, check his reading list, and you’ll be shocked).

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

I just do it. I lived in these places.

My favorites are Taipei, Kyiv, Tel Aviv, San Francisco, NYC, Medellin, Baja California (MX), Dubrovnik, Cape town, and London.

What is your favorite book recommendation?

Algorithms to live by (Brian Christian and Thomas L. Griffiths).

Atomic habits (James Clear)

Mr vertigo (Paul Auster)

Farewell to the alms (Gregory Clark)

Why nations fail

Master and margarita.

Art of war (I find it quite relevant for building companies as well).

Why are you in Tech?

Creating something from scratch is a beautiful thing.
