Ten questions for people who are thinking of voting for the former president

For a long time, I have been surprised that anyone in their right mind would vote for the former president (I can’t say his name) from Florida. I just don’t get how anyone can do it.

So, for those of you who are still thinking about doing it in November, I have some questions for you:

  1. Don’t you realize that he is getting older? How could you entrust the country to such on who is showing signs of mental deterioration?? Haven’t you noticed it when he rambles endlessly at one of his MAGA rallies without any coherent content? Haven’t you discovered that most of it is sheer nonsense or insults or sarcasm, just to please his base?
  2. Don’t you remember how badly he handled, or actually mishandled, the COVID-19 pandemic in the USA,  how he recommended to take detergent as a cure, how thousands of people died unnecessarily due to his irresponsible leadership?? Don’t you think that his bad performance during the COVID-19 pandemic would be enough to disqualify him?
  3. Are you aware that he and most of his followers are climate change deniers, thereby harming the earth and most of the people in it, now and for future generations? Do you remember that he actually took the United States out of the Paris climate agreement? Don’t you think that supporting such a man (and such a political party) is risky, especially for those of you who live in Florida, along the water? Some commentators have said that his disregard of the environment should be enough to disqualify him for high office. Maybe you should think about this.
  4. Do you not recognize that he is a deeply immoral individual? Have you not noticed the unethical way he treats women, African Americans, Jews, Hispanics, Asians, immigrants, veterans and many others? Does this not worry you?
  5. Did you somehow miss the fact that he still denies that he lost the last election? Have you forgotten that he organized an insurrection on January 6th a few years ago against the capital of the USA? That on that destructive day his followers wanted to hang Vice President Pence (who had realized the recklessness of this man and has now announced that he will no longer vote for his former boss)? And that many other former Republicans — and former White House staff—have made the same sensible decision?
  6. For Jews in America: have you noticed his many anti-Semitic comments over the years and once again in recent weeks? Including the latest statement that he is already blaming the Jews if he loses the election!? Don’t you think that this is scary and dangerous? Have you paid attention to the fact that he repeatedly insults American Jews for not voting for him? (70-80% of American Jews vote for the Democratic Party!). Have you not noticed how strongly President Biden and VP Harris have stood by Israel during the last 11 months, how they have provided billions of dollars of military support, how they scrambled the American air force to help protect Israel from bombs from Iran, and how they have endeavored endlessly to help Israel reach a deal to have the hostages in Gaza returned (despite Netanyahu’s constant lack of real cooperation!)??? Or have you missed all of these events? By the way, the fact is that  the former president is NOT good for Israel! He is a self-proclaimed isolationist who would never send out the navy and Airforce to protect Israel. He is good, however, for the far-right in Israel, for Netanyahu and his extremist colleagues Ben Gvir, Smotrich and others (like the way he favors his fanatic colleagues in the House and Senate!). Don’t believe the spin that he is good for Israel! He is every bit as bad for Israel as he is for America and the world! Have you not paid attention to how he supports the anti- democratic forces in both Israel and America??
  7. Are you nervous about the fascism of the far-right led by the Orange Man, which is trying to take over America? Does it concern you at all? Do you not see that he and his friends are dangerously anti-democratic dictatorial types, with strikingly fascist tendencies? In particular, I ask fellow Jews: do you not remember what fascism wrought for the Jewish People and for the world in the last century?
  8. Are you not worried about chaos returning to the government with advisors like Steve Bannon (after he gets out of jail) and Robert F Kennedy Jr. and many other nut cases? Does this not scare you? Did you miss the reports of how many people who worked in the White House under him have repudiated him and have told the American people over and over again how unfit he is to be president?
  9. Did you not see him in the recent debate with Vice President Harris? How flustered and how out of control he was and how many absolutely unhinged statements and lies he uttered, especially the one about immigrants eating dogs and cats? Does this nor disturb you?
  10. I know that some of you don’t like to pay taxes . You like to keep your money for yourselves and you don’t like to see much of it going to the common good, to silly things like health care, education, and infrastructure. So, is that why you would vote against morality and conscience for this man and his extreme right-wing party?

For any of you who are still thinking of voting for the former president and his wildly irresponsible far-right political party, I urge you to reconsider, for the sake of America, Israel, the people of the world and the planet.
