Thank God for Christians
Thank God for Christians,
In times of difficulty you always find out who your real friends are.
We can all agree that Israel being bombarded daily with missiles, terror attacks via tunnel, and a world media obsessed with bashing Israel, and the Jews, qualifies as a difficult time for Israel, and its friends.
The Christian community especially the evangelicals have been there for Israel. A great example is CUFI (Christians United for Israel), placing national advertisements supporting Israel. To my Christian friends you really don’t know how it makes one feel who is Jewish, and perhaps Israeli to see this support. Jews and Israelis (they are of course mostly the same) are literally under siege in parts of the world. For example, to be Jewish, and own a business in France today is perilous.
Today’s evangelical knows more about Israel than many of my fellow Jews. They are mostly knowledgeable, up to date, and committed.
Many Christians are also aghast at what they see as a complacency among Jews, and even in some cases outright hostility towards Israel. They are perplexed, confused, about this and frankly so am I sometimes.
Of course not all Christians have been there for us. Institutionally the Protestants/Presbyterians, haven’t been especially nice to Israel but more about that later.
Now the elephant in the room. Some of you are saying Larry, Christians just want us to all go to Israel so that they can have their apocalypse and you know the rest.
Fair enough however for Christians this is part of their religion. Who am I to criticize them for this? They believe in “saving” people especially Jews. That is their prerogative, and I am not insulted by it. Most are very polite to me especially when I tell them no thank you.
Most importantly if, if they were able to find a way to get all Jews to Israel (maybe there is a really good super saver deal here) and we do all show up, that would be a miracle by itself. If I get to Israel and see a man with a beard walking across the water, personally …. I will keep an open mind. Until that time however they are our friends, I am appreciative of it, and as I said Thank God for them.
Here is a thank you to some other friends of Israel that have gone over and beyond what is expected.
Jon Voight: I always liked you as an actor especially in midnight cowboy, deliverance, and the Odessa file. The Odessa file made a big impression on me. You played a German who tracked down a Nazi. Apparently this film had a huge impact on you as well, since you have been a friend to the Jewish community, and now Israel for quite some time. Thank you Jon Voight
Sean Hannity: Sean, we are fellow Long Islanders and I have watched you for years. I don’t always agree with you (I admit I mostly do agree) however you have always been one that has taken on big issues that were not popular. I know that you have received a tremendous amount of hate mail, and threats because of your support for Israel. From the bottom of my heart thank you.
You have rightfully pointed out the hypocrisy of the main stream media, and you have walked the walk after you talked the talk. I have five children, and it is a very hard thing to explain to them why Jews and Israel in particular are so vilified around the world. You are a beacon of strength and a righteous man. You are now an honorary Jew in my book.
Cal Thomas has also been a great friend of Israel with his columns in USA today and on television. Cal has been on Israel’s side and has defended her with his usual common sense point of view. Thank you Cal
The U.S. Congress: Without you there would be no balance between the executive branch and Congress when it comes to Israel. The President signed your bill giving more money for the lifesaving Iron Dome project but you have to ask yourself would he have without Congress almost unanimous support?
There are so many people to thank that I will have to write another missive to include them all.
So thank you my Christian friends.
Thank you for standing up for Israel as a true friend.
Thank you for defending Israel even when it is not popular.
Now to the others who claim to be Pro-Israel but have proven in Israel’s time of need you are absent or worse.
My short list.
J Street
The far left
The world media not all, thank you Italy and Canada.
The UN
Tom Friedman
Peter Beinart who said “I do not support this war”. As if Israel started it.
Some Presbyterian, and Protestant groups who support BDS
Too many to list.
To supposed “Pro Israel” friends.
When Israel is down .and they are, this is the time to show your unwavering support
To quote a very popular book.
There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
This is a time for unconditional love.
Thank you.
Thank you from the bottom of my, and millions of others hearts, who appreciate your support.
