Monitoring here is all well and good but, somehow, given the complexity of the situation and its longstanding history where things have never once gone according to plan, this exercise in international scrutiny may well turn out to be a futile one.

Unless this ‘monitoring’ is backed up by the very biggest of big sticks and some sort of pressure release valve is also incorporated within the system, there will be very little prospect of no one ‘crossing the line’ in a region where so many lines have been crossed so many times before.

So, first off, where to find a really big stick? – ‘ for those of us with better things to do.’
