With so much division and uncertainty on the Israeli side and a somewhat similar confusion in direction among Palestinians, future efforts on the peace front already seem destined for a long and fruitless wandering in the parched deserts of national and international diplomacy.
What was the local’s reply to a traveller when asked about the best route to a city in a far-off land? ‘ Well, if I were you, I wouldn’t start from here. ‘
So, is there then any possibility of doing a little backtracking on this 66 year-old journey? Can we find a new starting point from which to proceed, one guaranteeing a much more orderly progress and towards a destination never before thought attainable in so short a time?
