The complete idiot’s guide to Mideast peace – part 145

Washington warns both sides to quell rising tensions | The Times of Israel  ‘After Israeli official slams Kerry for remarks on Palestinian teen’s murder, State Department says strong language emphasizes concern over escalation’

‘ “The Secretary’s statement this morning sent a very strong message from the United States that there has to be an alternative path forward, that violence is not the answer,” Psaki said. “We’ve been in touch with both sides to convey that strongly, as well.’

But is there an alternative path forward and, if so, what is it?

There may have been alternative paths put forward in the past but none seem to have had the desired effect, not even one staying the course long enough to prove itself. Events have generally conspired to frustrate all efforts in such areas and present circumstances would appear to be just as unfavourable, much as they have always been.

And, unless the overall situation gets cranked to an entirely new level of play, there is little prospect of any improvement whatsoever in days to come. Indeed, the probability is that it can only get worse.

So let us crank up the situation to the max and then see what happens.

Whatever it is, it must be better than what there is now. – ‘ for those of us with better things to do.’
