The complete idiot’s guide to Mideast peace – part 179

Egypt suggests restarting peace talks as part of ceasefire bid | The Times of Israel   ‘Egyptian FM meets with Kerry, who says he wants to end fighting and find ‘a way to deal with the underlying issues’ ‘

Well, somehow I think we’ve all been here before and, as on so many previous occasions, the best that can be hoped for is a fragile ceasefire to take hold, have it last for a little while and then fall back to the more usual active hostilities whenever circumstances dictate and the mood is there to do so. Which, I’m afraid, it all too often is.

This conflict really has to be locked down the very next time there is any break in its continuity. And that won’t be happening if only the standard, formulaic measures of times past are applied.

Something far more robust than methods from days gone by must now be used. These have long been known not to work and therefore they should be jettisoned from the discussion and new ones entertained as a matter of some urgency.

This one is new and guaranteed to deliver positive results in every case. – ‘ for those of us with better things to do.’

So, what are we all waiting for? Armagedon? The Messiah? Some worldwide epiphany? Well, if we haven’t sorted out this matter by then – and quite a few others of the same type  – then that day, when it comes, may not be a very good one for any of us.

.Ok so I can’t spell Armageddon …. It’s not the end of the world
