When a politician is pilloried for exploring the possibility of restarting peace talks, you have to wonder what hope is there for any of these the future. Perhaps there really is none and this is why 66 years have gone by with so little progress made in resolving such matters, not even to the grudging satisfaction of one single person.

Or have too much timidity and inaction been allowed to rule where decisive and robust intervention might have remedied the situation long before now?.

Has the problem grown so intimidating that those directly involved no longer sense any means of exit from its embrace? Have the many threads spun from a potent mixture of mind-boggling complexity and ever-present danger created a web from which no escape is possible?

Then it may be time to spin a very different sort of web, one of our very own devising and nothing like the haphazard and immensely tangled version that has held us fast these past seven decades and more. – ‘ for those of us with better things to do.’
