The Real Life Israeli Wonder Woman

On Thursday evening, three buses exploded in the Tel Aviv suburb of Bat Yam, with two more buses exploding in Holon. No casualties were reported, thanks to the quick thinking of Adi Jegna, the heroic commuter who spoke up and alerted the driver. As the driver quickly called his supervisor, he quickly parked in a parking lot quickly getting everyone off safely. The bomb detonated a few minutes later, leaving the bus in ashes.

It’s another example of proof that not all heroes wear capes and masks.

Forget Gal Gadot. Adi Jegna is a real life Israeli Wonder Woman, and proof of what Jewish representation is, beyond the stereotypical narrative.

So, who and what defines a hero? In my words, a hero is someone who takes the time to help others and understand their needs through their actions. You don’t have to have influence to be a hero, but kindness and compassion is the best gift that we can give and receive.

However, Adi Jegna does not consider herself a hero, but a messenger of G-d. It was at that very moment that G-d spoke to her and said she needed to take action. Not only did she put the lives of others above her own, but people are alive today because of her courageous actions. This is what our tribe was established on. This is what we live for. This is what we strive to be.

What could have been another tragedy was successfully avoided thanks to her bravery. She is the example of representation we all need to see and understand.
