The time is now.

The recent events that led Israel to respond in the way it has happened in the last past weeks indeed have awaken our people to unity, as it never happened before in many centuries. The amount of time sounds exaggerated but it is true. We have experienced short periods of consistent unity since the birth of our nation. Hence we have these days a real historical reason to celebrate. We have one a rare and exceptional momentum to reflect on our history, and the events that have led us to where we are now.

Let’s begin with the fact that since our beginnings with Abraham our father, we became the most persecuted people in history. This should make us consider the reasons, which are all related to what the Torah wants to make prevail in the world. This is the fundamental underlying excuse other nations and their beliefs have for undermining Israel’s identity and destiny for humankind. It is about the Torah’s version of goodness as the purpose of life versus the nations’ version of it. This among other pagan, mythological and illusory beliefs regarding power, dominion, superiority and control they dream to gain by displacing Israel (the Jewish people) from their identity and mission in the world as decreed in the Torah, including occupying Israel’s ancestral land also given to the Jewish people in the Torah.

Let’s face the facts. We have had and still have enemies who have hated us, still hate us, and pursue our annihilation. We can’t afford the disdain of ignoring our history, as some notorious Jews outside and inside Israel have the idiocy to ignore. This is not about the “poor Palestinians” that nobody wants in the Arab or Muslim world, who were pushed out of their countries for us to deal with them as refugees, that according to the “nations” should occupy part of Israel’s ancestral land. The “nations” that force us to sleep with one of our worst declared enemies in our own home.

More than 3300 years of systematic persecution, including invasions, exiles, Crusades, Inquisition, pogroms, the Holocaust, and more aggressions among other atrocities, have not been enough evidence for some of us in Tel Aviv and other cities, as well as Jews in other parts of the world to realize once and for all that we must end this apparently endless predicament. We shouldn’t have to sacrifice more Jewish lives in order to come to a conclusion that have been endlessly repeated throughout history. Now that we have a precious historical moment of Jewish unity, let’s have the courage that our soldiers have for offering their lives to destroy our enemies for the rest of us to live in peace as we are commanded by the Torah as our Jewish identity.

Let’s celebrate that Tzipi Livni and Yair Lapid came to their senses and now also want to eradicate from Gaza those who pursue the destruction of our families and children, launching rockets from their families and children’ schools and hospitals. They point out that their families and children’ lives are more valuable than ours, and they can kill our families and children buy we can’t kill theirs! Let’s celebrate that most of Israelis want to expel Hanin Zoabi from the Knesset and prosecute her for her hatred against us. This is the precious historical moment to face off all our enemies. Let’s see who are for us and who are against us in the international community. Let’s count our true allies who are willing to support the inalienable right of Israel to exist and flourish in peace as it has never been for a long time. We don’t need the approval from any nation for us to do what is right. We have millions of lives as reasons to fight the enemies in our midst. Millions who have being murdered, and millions that are alive and not willing to die again by the hatred of others.

The time is now. We all know, either by looking at history or by reading our Jewish prophets, that there will be a time – earlier of later – to finally confront our long lasting enemies and nemesis. All of our wars are imminent, and we must prepare for the one that will secure not only our survival as the Jewish people, but also our existence as the heralds and messengers of the goodness God wants to make prevail in the world. For this God is with us, and we can’t also ignore that He is protecting us in these crucial moment. Let’s finally assimilate that the underlying fundamental reason for our existence is to make goodness prevail, and we will. Let’s celebrate our national unity and make it the foundation for the victory over our declared enemies. The time is now.
