International law is necessary to ensure human rights for every country around the world. Together with all those with common-sense, I believe that unbiased international laws are a necessity for world peace.

As an organisation, the United Nations aims to fulfill these goals; they aim to maintain peace and security across the world, and to develop friendly relations among nations to achieve international cooperation. An organisation like the UN is essential for global stability.

International law, if done right, should help solve humanitarian crises and help end wars. It should help with the Russia-Ukraine war, and with Israel’s wars against Iran’s terror proxies.

Unfortunately, although, the United Nations has a huge bias against one country: Israel. Time and time again, they condemn Israel more than any other country. What horrors of the world shall they condemn next – the mass imprisonments of Muslims in Xinjiang, China? The inhumane persecution, including the death penalty, of the LGBT community across many places in Africa and the Middle East?

No, they say – let’s talk about Israel.

The United Nations General Assembly, the UN’s body whose mission focuses on policy-making, has passed 141 resolutions condemning Israel since 2015 – more than double all the condemnations against other countries, combined.

The United Nations Human Rights Council, the body within the UN which focuses on improving global human rights, has condemned Israel more than Iran, Russia and North Korea combined. Since 2006, they’ve passed 104 resolutions against Israel, compared to 99 against all other countries.

At this point, the UN starts to lose credibility.

Iran systematically suppress women with violence. They are the world’s global terror cell, and are the main backer behind Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis.

Russia illegally invaded Ukraine. They created Europe’s largest refugee crisis since World War II, with more than 6 million people fleeing Ukraine and more than 3 million internally displaced.

North Korea is a dictatorship, a communist country where over 20 million people are forced into a system of indoctrination from birth and are stripped of any opportunity.

Ask yourself, is Israel – a democratic country where women can succeed, gay people can thrive and where different beliefs are respected – actually worse than Iran, Russia and North Korea combined?

Israel is defending themselves against extenstantial threats; they’re fighting against terror organisations whose aims are to get rid of the entire Jewish state. Israel has a right and a duty to defend their citizens. Simultaneously, they must find a safe and secure way to enable the 2 state solution.

When the United Nations indicates that Israel is worse than every other country combined – it’s not just ridiculous, it’s laughable. With their evident anti-Israel bias, much of what the UN says has been discredited and ignored by Israel. Who suffers from this? The Palestinians.

UNRWA, the United Nation’s humanitarian organisation for Palestinians, has recently been banned by Israel’s government after months of speculation of their relationship with Iran’s terror proxy Hamas.

If the UN had a good working relationship with Israel, could this have been solved? Very likely. But instead, their anti-Israel bias unfortunately allows the Palestinians’ suffering to continue.

The existence of the United Nations is vital to sustain world peace. They must remember and keep to their original Charter, which is to achieve international co-operation. To do that, they must improve their relationship with Israel, and work to remove the explicit anti-Israel bias.
