Wouldn’t this be an amusing movie?
This left-wing prime-minister who is also a lawyer and gets accused of many financial iniquities. He resigns to defend himself in court. As a lawyer, he knows how to duck the system’s blows and he does.
However, the public gets to see him scorn the prosecution and the police. Where is the proof? There is none. If he wasn’t guilty, he wouldn’t laugh so loudly, but in Roman law, people don’t get convicted on a hunch, without proof.
Then it goes wrong. Of course it does. Why do all crooks always assume that it will be them who will succeed? It’s that same arrogance that often brings them down. Here too.
He is also part of a group embezzlement and one of the collective get pushed out as a nobody. He goes to the police, is believed and the whole group goes down.
Same mistake all over, he scorns a fall guy (fall gall) and she explodes. She goes to the cops and at retrial, an earlier acquittal is turned around.
He gets convicted twice and lands in jail for over a year.
However, once a thief and liar, always a thief and liar, in jail he pens a book on how he was innocent and his political opponents brought him down in a conspiracy. How to make money out of your guilty status. Would you buy such a book?
It gets even more bizarre when his right-wing successor approves the publication of a secret success scored under his predecessor on the eve of the publication of the supposedly tell-all book. True, this triumph happened on his watch; but to credit him is a bit silly because any other prime-minister would have undertaken and achieved the same result.
And that’s not all. In the book he also lectures his right-wing successor, whom he calls so unethical that he should run before anyone finds out.
His successor is actually accused widely of financial improperness and the public believes him that it’s just empty slander to bring him down.
Still, much like the police has no proof whatsoever against this prime-minister, neither has the public for him. It’s just a hunch. Until his predecessor comes out of jail accusing him. There is no greater support for the present prime-minister’s innocence than accusations by this guy.
They should make a movie out of this. Don’t give him the proceeds. Call the movie Chutzpah. It will be very successful.
