Nearly six years ago, then Vice President Joe Biden spoke to honor Israel’s 67th Independence Day. He praised Israel, its Government, as well as my fellow Israelis. The speech is located on the White House archives site covering President Obama.
The Four Questions
I want to concentrate on four points from Biden’s remarks and compare them to what we know today – almost six years later. There are many other remarks to choose from, but as a hint to the four questions we all will be asking at the Seder on Pesach, I will limit this Blog to four points from that speech on April 23, 2015, in Washington, DC:
Point 1 — Biden began his speech as follows:
“My name is Joe Biden, and everybody knows I love Israel.””
Point 2 — Biden then explains how committed Obama and himself are to protect Israel:
“So today, we celebrate your independence and our friendship. President Obama and I are proud to carry forward the unbroken line of American leaders –- Democrat and Republican —- who have honored America’s sacred promise to protect the homeland of the Jewish people”.
Point 3 — Biden feels he is knowledgeable enough to invent Israel if it did not exist:
“As many of you heard me say before, were there no Israel, America would have to invent one. We’d have to invent one because Ron is right, you protect our interests like we protect yours.”
Point 4 — Biden said Obama supported Israel’s security more than any other President:
“So let’s get something straight. In this moment of some disagreement occasionally between our governments, I want to set the record straight on one thing: No President has ever done more to support Israel’s security than President Barack Obama.”
Now, Let’s Look At The Truth
Point 1 — Any new President who claims to love Israel does not wait as long as Biden did to have his first conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister once taking office.
Point 2 — Just looking at the current US Southern Border Crises should make it obvious that Joe Biden has absolutely no clue what would be necessary to keep Israel safe from our enemies.
Point 3 — G-d Forbid that Joe Biden is given the opportunity to invent Israel now that he is President.
Point 4 — Claiming that President Obama was the greatest President to look after Israel’s security further invalidates Biden’s claim in Point Two.
Was This Speech Partly Responsible For The Next Biden Family Tragedy?
Just looking more deeply into the Biden family history, I find it interesting to note how close Biden was with various key Palestinian figures in the past as was mentioned in previous Blogs. Since the PLO Leader as well as those who followed him always had called for Israel’s destruction, I find it difficult to believe those praises for Israel Biden mentioned during his speech were genuine.
And that is one of the main reasons I further investigated dates related to that speech and when Beau Biden passed away. This is what I discovered.
For the final few years of his life, Beau Biden suffered from a brain tumor.
In August 2013, Biden was admitted to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive type of brain cancer, after experiencing what White House officials called “an episode of disorientation and weakness”. A lesion was removed at that time. Biden had radiation and chemotherapy treatments and the cancer remained stable.
Joe Biden’s Speech Was Less Than One Month Before Beau’s Condition Again Worsened
Joe Biden spoke on April 23, 2015.
On May 20, 2015, Beau was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, because of a recurrence of brain cancer. He died there ten days later, on May 30, 2015, at age 46. His funeral was held at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Wilmington, Delaware, on June 6, 2015. He was buried at St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine in Greenville, Delaware
One Additional Assurance Biden Gave All Israelis During That Speech
Referring to President Obama, Biden said-
As President, he stood in Jerusalem, and declared to the whole world, “Those who adhere to the ideology of rejecting Israel’s right to exist, they might as well reject the earth beneath them or the sky above, because Israel is not going anywhere. So long as the United States of America is there, Israel will never be alone.” He means it. He means it. You know I mean it. I’m telling you he means it.
President Biden, please now show us you are keeping your promise that “Israel Will Never Be Alone”.
