US Canada and Mexico
Trump just imposed tariffs that are likely to harm the Canadian and Mexican economies.
Trump said that he wants these two countries to stop illegal immigrants and drugs from coming into the US. Also, he has pointed to trade imbalances, which he feels harm the American economy.
It’s interesting that, ideologically, the US has been moving to the right, while Canada and Mexico have moved to the left. The US Supreme Court ruled, over a year ago, that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion, whereas Canada and Mexico have legalized abortion. And regarding gender issues, Trump signed orders restoring traditional definitions, while Canada and Mexico endorse liberal definitions.
There is also a difference regarding Israel. Trump seems much more supportive of Israel, while the leaders of Canada and Mexico criticized Israeli actions of self-defence. Trump talks about evacuating Gazan civilians, as Trudeau and Sheinbaum talk about giving Palestinians a state.
One wonders how the trade war might impact the ideological divide. As we watch the fascinating developments of today’s quickly changing world, there is reason for optimism that G-dly values will prevail and endure.
Perhaps the direction of current events indicates that the era of Moshiach, a time when humanity will find true peace, is close.
May it happen very soon.
