Vanishing Act

‘IAF kills senior Salafist terrorist in Gaza strike’

‘Palestinian stabs Israeli to death in West Bank’

These are two headlines taken from news stories on this very day. They could easily be mistaken for many such headlines posted during decades of conflict in the past.

For any type of Arab-Israeli peace process to ever stand the remotest chance of success, headlines like these must be made to vanish permanently from the scene. Until this happens, the prospects for a settlement of any description will remain so small that they can be disregarded in their entirety; the latest flurry about negotiations, talks, talks about talks and the all the rest will continue to count for nothing unless some arrangement is put in place to remedy this ever-present stumbling block.
