Video: Fire today in the Valley of the Cross, Jerusalem

I walked through Emek Hamatzleiva at around 3:30pm today. Around 15 minutes later I noticed the light on my windows becoming orange. I went outside to find great clouds of smoke billowing down my street. Thankfully no one was injured but it took nine firefighter teams to put out today’s fire in the Valley of the Cross.

When I went to visit the site a couple of hours later, there was still a lot of smoke rising up from the valley, particularly within the walls of the Greek Monastery of the Cross which was evacuated, along with the Scouts building.

To a large extent it seems that the fire stayed within the garden walls of the monastery.

Here are more pictures from today’s fire.
