Were 6,000,000 Jews Murdered By The Nazis Because of “The Settlements”?

How quickly we forget history if we ever knew it all. Today (Israel’s Independence Day) in shul (synagogue) there was a little anti-State of Israel bash. I daven (pray) in a charedi (what I call “isolationist orthodox”) shul during the week. I like the “old country” feel and the Yiddish. The guys I daven with started by telling me that I could bring my guitar and sing hallel if I wanted, jokingly, of course. Then the comments started. I pretty much ignored them all, but I remember the one about buying Israeli flags on sale tomorrow so you can use them as wash rags for the floor.

At the same I read about Martin Indyk, the former US ambassador to Israel and the Vice President and Director for Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. He’s a Jew who seems to care very much about Israel, but says in this article from the Times of Israel “There are a lot of reasons for the peace effort’s failure, but people in Israel shouldn’t ignore the bitter truth – the primary sabotage came from the settlements,” he told Nachum Barnea.

He added: “The Jewish people are supposed to be smart; it is true that they’re also considered a stubborn nation. You’re supposed to know how to read the map: In the 21st century, the world will not keep tolerating the Israeli occupation. The occupation threatens Israel’s status in the world and threatens Israel as a Jewish state.”

How quickly we forget! These people, both Jews from totally different ends of the Jewish spectrum have forgotten what the State of Israel is all about.

Let me ask you one question, were 6,000,000 Jews murdered by the Nazis because of “the Settlements” or “the occupation”? Were the Jews expelled from Spain in 1492 “because of the Settlements”? Is everything “because of the Settlements” or “the occupation”? How did it happen that six million Jews were murdered? Why didn’t they just leave? The Jews who were expelled from Spain left, why didn’t the Jews in Europe before or during WWII?

If you were living in America and the government told Jews they have 7 days to leave the country or be killed where would you go? What if there was no Israel to accept you? You would be just like the Jews of Europe who were murdered by the Nazis. No one would accept them! There was no place for them to go in the entire world, literally. Even the pre-State of Israel was not an option because it was still being run by the British who refused to allow Jews in. They stopped refugee boats from landing on the shores of Israel all the way up to the day they left Mandate Palestine in 1948.

Six million Jews were murdered in the cruelest ways possible because there was no State of Israel. Martin Indyk can afford to live in his academic bubble and pontificate about “the Settlements” and that “Jews are supposed to be smart” because of the State of Israel. The charedi Jews in my shul are blessed with the luxury of bashing the very state that is saving their lives. It is a luxury for these people to bash Israel and speak mistruths about the State because the State of Israel exists. If it weren’t for the State of Israel the Jewish population would be significantly smaller because of the pogroms and holocausts that would continue to murder Jews as they did before the creation of the State of Israel.

How quickly we forget! If it weren’t for the State of Israel, all of world Jewry would be living at the whim of the countries that they live in, just as we did for thousands of years before. When you look at how much the world hates the State of Israel, you get an idea of how much hatred there would be against the Jews that live in their countries. These Jews should be thanking the State of Israel for it’s very existence because it takes the brunt of the anti-Jewish hatred in the world upon itself. The State of Israel has become the Jew of the World. The world hates us. If we do something good like helping earthquake victims in Haiti, we’re blamed for using poor, helpless Haitians as a propaganda tool for the Jewish State. When we listen to the world (i.e., “the International Community”) and do what they want by expelling Jews from their homes in Gaza and giving it to the Palestinians as a gift, no one remembers this. Then the world blames us for trying to prevent and suppress the terror that comes out of Gaza. Where was this wonderful “International Community” when six million Jews were being murdered?!

We as Jews can never make the world happy. Forget about it. We couldn’t when we were stateless and we can’t now that we have a state. Everyone forgets that all of “Palestine” which included “Trans-Jordan” was designated as the homeland of the Jews when the Middle East was being carved up after World War I. We ended up with a tiny sliver of what we were promised, but we accepted it because we had no choice. We desperately needed a home of our own, a place where we could go when the world kicked us out. Then when we conquered more of our ancient homeland in a defensive war, the world tells us to “give it back”. Why? To appease them. There were millions of refugees after WWII. All of them, to the very last one, have been resettled and don’t consider themselves refugees anymore. This includes all of the Jews (750,000) that were kicked out of their homes in the Muslim countries. All have be resettled except for the so-called “Palestinians”. They’re the only population whose refugee status is passed on from generation to generation. Such a concept never existed before in world history!

The United States and the United Kingdom did not support the Jewish State of Israel. Ironically it was the Soviet Union who was our biggest supporter, mainly because they hated the United States. Who gave the Jews arms to fight against the 50 million Arabs that swore to wipe us off the earth during the War of Independence in 1948? Was it our “great friend” the United States? No! They imposed an embargo on arms to Israel. It was Czechoslovakia at the orders of the Soviet government that sent us arms. It was nearly hopeless to win a battle against so many enemies, but we won. If there ever was a modern day miracle in battle, this was it. We won against impossible odds and then there was a State for Jews to come home to.

Instead of coming home, they stayed abroad, when they could. When life became unbearable such as in the Muslim countries, Jews came home. When life in America was better, they stayed there. Jews thrived in Poland for 1,000 years before the Nazis wiped them out. Jewish assimilation in Germany in 1930 was at 45% and rising. Within 20 years the Jews of Germany would have assimilated themselves into non-existence. (Sounds like the Jews of America today.)

Thank God for the State of Israel! If it weren’t for this incredible historical anomaly, who knows where the Jewish People would be today. The charedim that hate the State and the anti-Zionist Jews of America (and Israel) all have the luxury of their hatred simply because of the existence of the State of Israel.
