During the first emergency of the coronavirus pandemic, Israel looked like a model for the rest of the world. They very quickly shut down travel into and out of the country, they went into a complete lockdown, and the government held nightly news conferences to let people know what was going on with the virus in the country. Since that time, Israel has made a long list of mistakes. Therefore, Israel is currently struggling to deal with the virus. What has happened since Israel started to reopen and how is this going to impact what happens in the country moving forward? How the government, and its people, respond to the current situation is going to have a major impact on not only Israel but the rest of the world as well.

After Israel had Contained the Virus

At the start of the pandemic, Israel enjoyed a significant amount of success. Then, the government made the mistake of going on TV and declaring a virtual “victory.” Of course, the virus is very much still with us. Furthermore, the virus is going to be with us until there is a vaccine. A vaccine is likely not going to be available until 2021. Then, it is going to take some time to get the vaccine distributed to the rest of the world.

As a result, it was a mistake to declare victory over the virus because this allowed people to let their guard down. Then, the rest of the country reopened very quickly. The results were predictable. Cases of the virus started to surge and Israel is dealing with a dire situation. What is happening in the country right now?

The Hospitals in Israel Are Overwhelmed

According to many of the top experts in Israel, the hospital system is on the verge of being overwhelmed. A press conference was held in Israel recently by Dr. Avishai Elis, who is the secretary of the Internal Medicine Association in Israel. He held this conference in an effort to warn the people of an impending disaster and tragic implications that are going to stem from the current situation if the people do not listen to the government.

This announcement came on the heels of a shocking announcement by the government of Israel. Israel actually became the first country in the world to impose a second lockdown across the entire country. As a result, the people have become upset with the government, including Netanyahu, and have been expressing their displeasure at the situation by taking to the streets to protest. On the other hand, the protests have been banned by the government in an effort to reduce the spread of the virus.

The Future of Israel is Uncertain

Right now, the future of Israel is still very much up in the air. With the current state of the hospitals, there is a serious risk that people might not be able to find healthcare at the nation’s hospitals if the cases continue to surge. Therefore, it is important for everyone to follow the advice of health experts and do everything they can to curb the spread of the virus. This means staying away from other people, using handwashing (and hand sanitizer), and staying home. Only by banding together will we be able to beat back this virus. Most importantly, everyone has to remember that the virus is going to be with us until we have a vaccine. Therefore, even if cases start to drop, it is still important to follow these guidelines to prevent the lockdown from returning.
