Where? Where is the Leadership??

We are on a captainless ship- surrounded by whirpools and frothing sea monsters.

On a runaway train – rushing down the fast track off a cliff

On a nosediving plane whose pilot is either drunk on self importance or whose mind has ejected long ago.

Almost daily we are hit with failures of leadership- political and religious.

Failures of political leaders are almost par for the course and our standards have become oh so low…

But this is happening to our religious leaders as well- and we have ignored it for far too long. We find ourselves giving excuses or separating people’s actions from their right to rule.

But this is not the way it is supposed to be!

What happened to the leaders we would be proud to follow into battle? What happened to the Rabbis and scholars we knew would die before they embarrassed another human being? What happened to those who represented Torah who would never notice a woman’s sleeve length let alone comment on it?

Those who would represent our best now seem to do the worst!

We cannot say that though someone has been fraudulent, over- the- top, protected criminals or incited against others, he is still a great leader.

NO THEY ARE NOT.

Woe to the people that cannot think for themselves.

Woe to the people who see evil and do not call it such!

Woe to their children and woe to their future!

Wake up- this is us. This is now.

And it IS our responsibility to stand up and say no to the corruption, hubris and wrongdoing in our camp!

We owe it to ourselves, to our children, to our nation and yes, to our God.
