Why Greeks, Why Now?

Recently, my friends and I decided that the pro-Israel movement needs a breath of fresh air — a new initiative; one that will excite current advocates, and inspire new ones. But, we were faced with a dilemma, what exactly would that be?

As we brainstormed, we realized that many of us were involved in Greek Life at our respective campuses, and that each of our organizations was heavily involved in social and political aspects of campus life. So, a couple of months ago, we decided to launch ‘Greeks for Israel,’ a movement that will allow pro-Israel Greeks to make their voices heard on social media and within our community.

Regardless of our political beliefs, or religious affiliations, we agreed that Israel needs our support. Moreover, anti-Semitic and anti-Israel actions rose on campuses this past year; as reported by the AMCHA Initiative, the number of incidents involving the suppression of Jewish students’ freedom of speech and assembly approximately doubled from 2015 to 2016. The number of incidents opposing Israel’s right to exist nearly tripled from 2015 to 2016.

Our goal is to unite our fellow pro-Israel Greeks, based on our shared commitment to the defense of the State of Israel, a country that shares in our mutual love for brotherhood and sisterhood.

As always, we need the help of our fellow Greeks to make this project successful. How? It’s easy – take a picture of yourself or your organization, write a sentence or two on why you support Israel, and message it to us on Facebook at GreeksForIsrael, on Instagram at GreeksForIsrael, or via e-mail at GreeksForIsrael@gmail.com!14138043_175896322843394_8730908659677711115_o
