Why I Won’t “Vote Blue No Matter Who”

There is no reality in which I support Trump occupying the Oval Office. I will work as hard as possible to see that he is defeated in November. However, that does not mean that I will blindly vote for someone who is the opposite side of the same coin. The issues I have with Trump being president mirror the issues that I would have if Bernie Sanders occupied the Oval…. Neither man is a patriot. Trump seeks (and has been largely successful) to dismantle the very institutions that define democracy, Sanders constantly criticizes the institutions that make the US a democratic republic. Trump has a disdain for Americans, publicly criticizing patriots who do not support him. Sanders shares that disdain, only defines it as a hatred for “millionaires and billionaires.”

Both Trump and Sanders offer fantastical views on how to address issues that American citizens face. Trump lays blame for economic issues Americans face on “illegal immigrants,” garnering support for a border wall that will negatively impact the environment, violate Indigenous sovereignty, re-allocate money designated for military service members, among other things. Sanders wants to socialize everything from healthcare to charities to jobs. Just like Trump ignores the fundamental issues with his border wall (it can be tunneled under, it does not address the root cause of immigration, it proposes fundamental violations to human rights), Sanders ignores that his idea of a socialist United States will not work with a population as large and diverse as the one in the US.

However, the most important reason that I do not support and will not vote for Sanders is that he supports funding the very terrorists that are lobbing rockets at my son and millions like him.  As a mother I will never support someone who turns a blind eye to those who are attempting to kill my child and my people. Sanders conveniently ignores the fact that “humanitarian aid” given to Gaza is used to commit terrorist acts against Israeli citizens.

If my fellow Americans truly care about defeating Trump in November, I urge them to support a candidate that does not openly endorse those who seek my people’s death and destruction.
