Why There won’t be War with Hamas Soon!
Many commentators like Alex Jones and Cenk from the Young Turks have been saying for weeks that because of an investigation against Prime Minister Netanyahu, the people which reside in power will start a war to distract the Israeli public.
Statements such as these show a complete ignorance of how Israel works because of trying to compare how the United States chose to go to war in Iraq; they failed to understand that unlike the United States, Israel has a compulsory draft to all its citizens so if the Prime minister would go to war without a good reason there will be many upset parents and spouses that will not reelect him in the next elections.
Netanyahu’s son about two years ago was drafted into a combat unit, there is no special tax or exemption from military service because of someone’s social status, the Prime minister along with his two brothers served in the famous Sayeret Matkal and even lost a brother during operation Entebbe; any time there is war in Israel it is due to the fact conflict is unavoidable.
Every war Israel has conducted in the last forty years was started after Israel could no longer restrain itself anymore and there was a significant security concern that can no longer be pushed aside with a band aid.
Operation Peace for Galilee was conducted after the PLO attempted to assassinate the Israeli Ambassador to the United Kingdom even though there were several cross-border attacks from Lebanon resulting in the deaths of several Israeli residents who lived on the border with Lebanon.
During the second intifada even with terror attacks all over the country it took a suicide bomber to detonate himself in the Park Hotel in Netanya killing thirty senior citizens during Passover that the government finally launched Operation Protective Shield.
Second Lebanon war was started after Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon in 2000 and Hezbollah took over the vacuum Israel left leading to a build up of Hezbollah forces on the border with Israel and a buildup of Katusha rockets resulting in the murder to two IDF reservists and the launch of thousands of rockets from Lebanon resulting in the response of the second Lebanon War in 2006.
Etzion Junction in June of 2014 three Israeli teens were kidnapped and murdered, leading to Hamas firing of hundreds of Katusha rockets that Israel responded with airstrikes, it was only after it was discovered that there were massive tunnels between Gaza and southern Israel that the government could no longer do half measures, so they launched the military operation Protective edge.
Escalation is always tried to be prevented by the government until there is a literal knife in the throat of the country that the government can no longer take pressure from their own constituents to take action and fulfill the social contract a government has with its citizens in terms of protection.
Gaza today is in a situation where they are attempting to start another round with Israel to try and avoid a civil war in the Gaza strip due to their deteriorating humanitarian situation can lead to another civil war where Hamas can be over thrown and an organization like Islamic Jihad would take power.
Over the past few weeks Hamas has been persuading its citizens to attack the border fence and attempt to infiltrate Israel with the desire of murdering every Jewish Israeli in the way until they liberate Palestine.
Israel has been using the proper response by shooting people to injure rather than kill to minimize enemy casualties which has always been an Israeli military policy of shooting violent protesters in the legs so that people aren’t martyred and there is no reason to avenge anyone’s death.
Inability of Hamas to cause any Israeli deaths led to the use of incendiary kites to burn down hundreds of acres of farmland causing millions of dollars of environmental damage and the financial damage of the livelihood of the farmers who depend on it.
Since Operation Protective edge Israel has been far aware of the dangers of the tunnels underground and has Iron dome to protect it from rockets and a fence constantly patrolled by soldiers; unless Hamas gets anti-aircraft missiles, are able to bypass Iron dome or inflict mass casualties the likelihood of a full out war is incredibly unlikely.
Insurance companies and Israeli tax payers will compensate farmers for the damage to their fields; since there is no real life-threat this will continue until Hamas runs out of materials to continue the attacks.
In the North, Iran and Syria are in no condition to attack Israel because doing so would mean the withdrawal of Russian support they need to continue fighting against several different terror organizations fighting to take control of Syria.
Israel has been attacking Iran and Syria for months now every time there is a threat to national security and there has been close to zero retaliation from Iran and Syria for Israel violating their airspace.
Even though the death of staff sergeant Aviv Levi will enrage large segments of the population, the Israeli government will still not make a full scale war because there are three bodies of Israelis being held in Gaza under Hamas which Israel still has not taken military action.
Israeli-Russian relationship stronger than it has been in decades and incompetence of Hamas to actually cause mass Israeli deaths shows there will be no full scale war in the recent future.
