Yom Kippur War

Yom Kippur is a time of reflection. People reflect on the past years events. I personally reflect on the past years events in addition to previous years. The Jewish people as a whole take this to reflect on the past year. We can take this further as a Jewish nation and reflect on the Jewish people and Israel. Forty four years ago there was a major war that happened in the land of Israel on Yom Kippur. The war was called the Yom Kippur War. Egypt and Syrian armies attacked Israel. Israel was strong and united. Israel won the war! This is an important war!One may think that this day would have never been forgotten but that was not true.Government Ministers didn’t even show up for the memorial this year. There is still hope because other countries are still remembering this war.

The Yom Kippur War was important for Israel because they defended themselves from its neighbors. They were successful in a war that they expect. They made it through this surprise attack. Knowing that Israel is small, one might imagine the trauma it caused. It was important because it brought the nation together. It was during Yom Kippur and most people had to fight for their lives. Israel’s victory but also many casualties. There are many memorials who honor those lives lost. We can not forget that.

These memorials that honor the soldiers of the Yom Kippur War are important for all those who live in Israel and all Jews across the world. The fact is on Yom Kippur this time of reflection we reflect on the past. Yet important people have forgotten the war. In fact the Times of Israel has reported that not a single government minister attended the annual memorial for those who died in the Yom Kippur War. The Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized and said that it will never happen again. The people in the government even criticized him. But luckily not everyone has forgotten.

Israel would not have won the Yom Kippur War without the support of America. The citizens, government, and soldiers supported Israel in their time of need. There were American pilots who volunteered in the Yom Kippur War. There effort contributed in the victory and was appreciated greatly by Israel. Recently U.S pilots who fought in the war reunited with their Israeli brothers who fought in the War. Knowing that people in the Israeli government did not reflect on the war by having government officials at the memorial was disappointing. But there is hope because people in the United States reflected and honored their brothers.
