Attention today should not be empowered to report on behalf of the criminal prime minister’s sniveling request for immunity from prosecution. Rather it must be given to Yuli Edelestein, Speaker of the House, who Benny Gantz, leader of the Blue and White party, has accused of turning our Knesset into a “safe house for criminal prosecution”.
His words were followed by Yisrael Beitenu’s leader and spokesman, Avigdor Liberman, who has openly accused Netanyahu of holding Israel hostage in order to prevent his guilty counts on three charges from sending him to where he rightfully belongs…. NOT to leadership of our country but to a confinement in a prison cell.
“All that matters to Netanyahu is immunity from the charges against him. He is holding all of Israel hostage to his personal problems”.
It is time. The time has finally come for the Israeli masses to shout loud and clear, “Down with the King. Off with his head”.
I can vision and hear in my mind the cries in Paris during the great French Revolution of 1789-1799 led by the powerful radical leader Maximilien Robespierre.
We have, by contrast, a powerful (but not radical) leader in the person of Benny Gantz.
The success of the French Revolution, supported by the masses of the people, ended absolute monarchy in France. King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette were beheaded on the guillotine.
The end of the monarchy gave birth to democracy and the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte.
We have no guillotine in Israel but, even without it, the reign of King Bibi the First must come to an immediate end, accompanied by a modern Marie Antoinette named Sara. Only with their demise from politics can true democracy be restored in our country.
A once adored Netanyahu is now a despised Netanyahu and the people have spoken. It is incumbent upon the members of the Knesset to heed the Vox Populii… the voices of the Israeli people.
Assuming that Bibi’s “cry” for immunity will not be approved in a vote by the Knesset, the very fact that he has requested immunity can delay his trial for many months. In the absence of a government, no action can be taken.
Of course, in our history, there were other ways to remove a prime minister from office… a tragic way.
The assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by a young agitator, Yigal Amir, is still fresh in mind.
Nothing is impossible and with all protection available a bullet works faster than a ballot, chas v’chalila.
Benny Gantz’s remarks were powerful in his attack and condemnation of Binyamin Netanyahu. He accused the prime minister of being not only a criminal but also a vicious liar who knows very well what crimes he is charged with and the truth to those charges… charges which he is too cowardly to admit.
Sara will still fight to keep her residence on Jerusalem’s Balfour street, although the home in Caesarea is waiting. A home that is, until her husband is transferred to another home, less fancy and behind bars. No swimming pool.
The political impasse grows more stinking as each day passes. Hopefully, the respected Speaker of the Knesset, Yuli Edelstein, will reply more truly to the request for immunity before passing it along to our lawmakers for their votes.
The time has now come to hear “Down with the King” at least if not with “Off with his head”.
What more tragedies must we endure in this new year?
My suitcase is packed. Destination unknown.
