3 little words

Wanna have your social media feed filled with vile hate speech? Do you want to hear how terrible a person you are?

Just type these three words: “I support Israel”.

The following has been said to me on Twitter (I have edited out the dirty words and have not posted the actual comments for that same reason and to protect the guilty):

ME: I believe in self determination for ALL groups.

Random Dumbo: YOU HATE PALESTINIANS!! YOU RACIST PIG! YOU SUPPORT APARTHEID, YOU HOOK NOSED ****!!

(amazing how I appear to look like someone who was born Jewish, when I was not. By the way, this person claims to NOT HATE JEWS)

Me: We need peace, but not at the expense of Israel’s security or the Palestinian right ot self determination. (seems reasonable)

Random Dumbo: WHY DO YOU WANT TO KILL ALL ARABS? YOU RACIST *****!!

(so I have moved on from hating Palestinians to hating all Arabs..in a week)

Me: Israel has the right to defend herself, like all countries.

Random Dumbo: NO SHE DOES NOT,. HAMAS IS DOING NOTHING WRONG. THEY ARE FREEDOM FIGHTERS, YOU DIRTY JEW!

(this was also  from a dude who swears he does NOT hate Jews…)

Me: People on both side deserve peace, free from Hamas terror and threats.

Random Dumbo: JEWS WILL NEVER HAVE PEACE! GO BACK TO EUROPE, YOU K***! YOU SHOULD BE  PUT IN AN OVEN!!

(while I am always cold, I think being put into an oven is not an effective way to warm up. And, why would I move back to Europe. I have never lived there..)

This is just a sample I have collected over the last 3 years. I have learned if you mention supporting Israel, it is like code word for it is “Ok to spew venom” at me. I can take it. I enjoy it. I usually do not respond to the hate, because responding to them is like giving them life.

I believe the Palestinians have the same right to self determination that Israelis do. I do not celebrate the death of anyone. I do not like to see anyone suffering. BUT…spewing hate on social media does nothing to help promote peace and understanding.

But…that is not what they want to begin with..
