A new initiative from the Israeli government wants to enlarge the power of Members of Knesset in all kinds of ways in exchange for limiting the number of bills they can propose, to a third of the present level: MINISTERS ANNOUNCE ‘LEGISLATION REVOLUTION’: LESS BILLS, MORE SUPERVISION and Shaked and Lapid team up to fight excess legislation and MKS SLAM ‘LEGISLATION REVOLUTION’ PROPOSED BY SHAKED, LEVIN. The argument is: the opposition launches so many bills only because it lacks other ways to change what is going on.
Now, this reasoning is wanting. Rather, the power of the parliamentarians should be enough enlarged. If that suffices, the number of bills would then automatically diminish. No limitation would then be needed.
However, as a citizen I would still support this reduction in work if all Members of Knesset would also accept a cutback in their salaries and bonuses to a third.
