A different Israel
After the Six Day War, Israel was prepared to give away land. Government officials told Arabs in the West Bank who were about to flee, that they should stay.
Instead of acknowledging the miraculous victory, instead of appreciating what G-d had given them, Israel was afraid of what the nations of the world might say. So they rushed to tell the U.S. that they were prepared to give back the conquered territory. Reportedly the U.S. was shocked that Israel wanted to do this.
The Yom Kippur War was also a miracle. The Egyptians had crossed the Suez Canal, broken through the Bar Lev line, and there was nothing between them and Tel Aviv. But they waited for three days, giving Israel time to regroup and attack. It was a miracle. The Almighty confused them, and Israel survived.
But then came Oslo, and Israel gave the Palestinians self-autonomy, the first step towards an independent Palestinian state.
Intifadas followed. When the enemy thinks that you are ready to give away land, it encourages them to terrorize.
Then Israel gave away Gaza. And October 7 happened.
But now it’s a different Israel. No more giving away land. No more not destroying enemy threats.
It’s a new Israel. It’s a government led by those who fear the One above. It’s a people who acknowledge the miracles. It’s a nation who have strengthened their inner bonds with each other and with their heritage. It’s a people who have become intensely appreciative to G-d.
It’s a different world. And the entire world realizes, that Israel has found itself.
