A Divine Promise Retains History’s Balance

(Reflections on the Haftorah for Bo)

(Jerimiah 46:13-28)

Changing seasons and the vicissitudes

Of time and place vary but the dimension

Of eternity remains forever true;

A Divine promise retains history’s balance.

It depends on us for equilibrium,

To be reached in harmony regained, born

Of our ultimate will to deserve the promise

To return within ourselves, in space and time,

Wholly integrated body and spirit,

Worthy of harmony’s awaiting scale.

How many eras must then slip through time

For eternity to pervade sublime?

When Jeremiah with courage speaks loud and clear

Of tyranny, history will unfold and set aside fear.
