A Few Thoughts on Domestic Violence From a Survivor

Someone said on TikTok “Israel doesn’t handle domestic violence well.” Well, as a survivor of domestic violence, I can tell you that most if not all countries don’t handle domestic violence well.

The cops, the courts and the public often deny survivors accusations against the abuser and gaslight them.

I know a case of a woman who was abused by her husband. She left him. And one day after she dropped off her daughter at school, he came to her house and stabbed her 67 times killing her. That finally ended him up in jail. But my question is why wasn’t he is jail before that so he couldn’t kill her?

The failures of the cops and courts often lead to domestic violence victims being killed, becoming destitute and sometimes even losing their children.

There needs to be more done to protect domestic violence victims and give them more resources to start again.

The blame game needs to stop with some people blaming the domestic violence survivor for the abuse or questioning why they stayed so long.

Domestic violence is complicated. It’s not an easy to fix situation. And often survivors have to make tough choices that none of us would want to make.

I was a Muslim domestic violence victim. So the issue of Muslim domestic violence victims is near to my heart  So if you would like to support Muslim domestic violence victims in NYC, please donate to: https://www.pillarsofpeace.org/
