A response to “The Settlers are Winning”

Earlier today, the Times of Israel posted a blog post entitled “The Settlers are Winning!” While I found SO many statements in that post to be seriously flawed and very offensive, there is one line that I feel I must respond to. (Fellow blogger Paula Stern  took extreme offense to the usage of the term “final solution” in his article. While I agree with that comment, my post is directed at another sentence.)

In his post, Meyer Rothberg writes: “They can harass Palestinians at will with no consequences, even set fire to the Church of the Beatitudes by the Kinneret (it seemed likely to me that some Yitzhar youths were responsible) and get away with it. Imagine the response if Arab youths did something similar.”

I find it most instructive that he decided that it was youths from Yitzhar that perpetrated this crime. But THAT is not the part that bothers me. It is his last sentence: “Imagine the response if Arab youths did something similar.” Mr Rothberg I do not need to imagine at all. I see it every single day! Examples abound but let me merely cite but a few.

Arabs throw stones that inflict damage on buses and the light rail. And the world response? NOTHING

Arabs slit the throat of a young woman standing at a bus stop and murder her. And the world response? NOTHING.

Arabs run  over a baby and murder her; Arabs stab border police; Arabs shoot and murder a young man on the way back from a basketball game; Arabs murder a number of worshipers in a synagogue in Har Nof…and the world response? NOTHING.

Mr Rothberg, what the world gets is that Jewish blood is CHEAP and no, it is not necessary to imagine how the world would respond when an Arab attacks a Jewish institution or person. The facts speak for themselves.

BUT, let me turn the tables on you. Imagine how the world would react if a Jew stabbed and killed an Arab security person? Or if a Jew ran into a crowd of Arabs killing one or two children? Or how would the world react if a Jew entered a mosque during prayers and killed some of the worshipers? What if a Jew blew up an Arab bus?

I am not advocating for ANY of those actions. I am merely taking your article and turning it around on you. And, by the way, the answer to the above hypothetical question is simple: The world would go insane; the UN would condemn us; there would be bloody protests all over the world; there would be calls for war crimes charges to be brought to the Hague, and on and on….because while Jewish blood is cheap, it seems that  Arab blood is the most expensive on the planet.
