A Rubicon Moment – Can The US Navigate It To Real Peace?

The Black Saturday (10/7) massacre is a peak on the crest of ideology forged in the West based on victimhood. This latest version of Western revolutionary ideology, called “Woke”, swings in the same anti-Jew direction as its antecedents and is again spearheaded by a death cult. Its blinkered view of authenticity, oppression and purification mirrors the Nazi focus on blood and soil, Nietzsche’s “will to power,” and Bukunin’s lust for destruction. Because Progressive Woke proponents view the Jewish victims of Hamas’ barbarism as subhuman oppressors and claim the violence as cleansing and redemptive, they can be counted upon to protect the perpetrators so that they can live to fight another day. As France, Canada, and the UK threaten to reward Hamas’ slaughter of Jews and starvation of Gazans with recognition of a Palestinian state, the US faces a critical juncture on its path to expand the Abraham Accords, which the Hamas massacre was designed to derail. To move forward to real peace, the US must intensify its efforts to neutralize the Woke revolution and the Progressives “victimhood ideology.”

Over time, the fundamentals of conflict in the Middle East have evolved away from nationalist struggle for self-determination to a clash of civilizations fueled by progressive doctrine cloaked in Islamic principles. Early Arab nationalist witnessed Stalin and Hitler as they mobilized entire populations under a single eschatological offering of salvation fueled by violence. Arab intellectuals wove communist and fascist ideologies into concepts ranging from secular Arab nationalism to Islamism, with revolution as the organizing principle. For example, Hassan al-Banna, who founded the Muslim Brotherhood, “mirrored the totalizing ambitions of Marxist and fascist systems of the same period.”[1]

In the process, the Arabs also adopted the Western antisemitism that German seized upon to cope with the humiliation of their defeat in the Great War. Their Nazi-style hatred for the Jews was later encouraged and leveraged across the Islamic world by the Soviets, who worked to “turn this weapon of the emotions into a terrorist bloodbath against Israel and its main supporter, the United States.”[2]

Unable to succeed militarily against the State of Israel, the Arabs introduced the global avant-garde to an aesthetic of violence.[3] They underpinned suicide bombings and unfiltered terrorist violence against civilians with a theology of revolutionary martyrdom that transformed vile acts of hatred (including the use of human shields)[4] into a means of redemption.[5]

As Arabs turned to nihilism in the name of Islamism and Jihadism,[6] they walked a common ground with Western Progressives. Their shared worldview frames both Israel and America as embodiments of evil.[7] Palestine symbolizes to them a great crime to be avenged: Western imperialist domination, led by America with Israel as its forward base, that prevents Arab societies from developing their full potential.[8] As Jihadists call for Muslims to kill Americans, their allies, and the Jews,[9] it’s the Progressives who celebrate their unbridled violence and the primacy of terrorist power in the name of progress and justice. They give license, for example, to the brutality and barbarism of Hamas and consecrate it as an expression of Progressive “truth”.

The sea of blood and fire in which the Progressives rejoice is unlikely to be halted by kinetic warfare alone. The underpinning philosophy must also be vanquished, particularly at its source in the West. Real peace is an uphill battle while the Progressive “useful idiots” can be counted upon to force truces or ceasefires, which will only be temporary but sufficient to give enough time and space for the enemy to regroup and rearm.[10]

Executing a multi-front strategy to deliver real peace requires courage and resolve. In the face of considerable political pushback, the US is blazing a path of ideological counter-revolution and institutional recapture. At home, the Trump administration is committed to eliminating radical ideologies that poison the mind. Abroad, the US has retracted support from UN bodies due to anti-American and anti-Israel bias. For example, it has withdrawn funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) because its staff were involved in the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. In July 2025, the US announced that it will withdraw from the UN culture and education agency (UNESCO) because it “supports woke, divisive cultural and social causes that are totally out-of-step with the commonsense policies that Americans voted for.” Also in July, US congressmen introduced legislation (S. 2293, H.R. 4397) to direct President Trump and Secretary of State Rubio to designate the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, which signals to US allies such as Turkey and Qatar that they need to reassess their ideological associations.

The ingenuity of US initiatives for real peace in the Middle East under the Abraham Accords comes from moving beyond past failed approaches and creating a new mindset. By presenting a new paradigm anchored in regional security, normalization, integration, and mutually-beneficial cooperation, it unequivocally rejects the Progressives’ criminalization of the Jewish State and jettisons the liberal mindset that is wedded to the two-state solution that the Arabs rejected in 1948 and the Palestinians emphatically repudiated with the Second Intifada. President Trump’s June 2025 decision to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities in June 2025–which marked a break with the isolationist wing of his core MAGA political supporters–served as a concrete demonstration of American willingness to act against a shared adversary of the Gulf States.[11] Coming on the heels of the severe weakening of Iran’s Axis of Resistance, the US action enhances the potential for peace that Hamas sought to prevent.

Following the Black Saturday massacre, Hamas Politburo member Ghazi Hamad asserted that, “We are victims. Therefore, nobody should blame us for the things we do…. Everything we do is justified.” Today, Hamas is turning the civilian starvation it has caused into a tool to accentuate “victimhood” in its effort to survive and claim triumph from their effort to derail US led Arab-Israel normalization. As Western countries look to recognize an unwanted state of Palestine–which would serve as a launching pad for existential violence against Israel–the US is at a decisive moment in its efforts to push back against Woke victimhood ideology and press forward with the Abraham Accords. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the White House scolded their Western allies for interfering and prolonging the Gaza War, then threatened economic sanctions. On July 31, 2025, the US stepped up the pressure by sanctioning the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Palestinian Authority (PA). If the US is to successfully navigate this rubicon moment to real peace, it needs to double down on its counter-revolutionary efforts and exert more diplomatic and economic leverage. For this, President Trump deserves full Jewish support.
