Robert L. Wolkoff

A Zionist ‘Al Chet’

For the sin we have committed by diminishing the sanctity of Jewish lives

And for the sin we have committed by diminishing the sanctity of Arab lives

For the sin we have committed by accepting a double standard

And for the sin we have committed by blaming Israel first

For the sin we have committed by distorting facts

And for the sin we have committed by excusing anti-Semitism

For the sin we have committed by ignoring the will of Israeli citizens

And for the sin we have committed by demeaning Israeli democracy

For the sin we have committed by arrogantly trying to “save Israel from itself”

And for the sin we have committed by “knowing better” than those in danger

For the sin we have committed by ignoring Jewish rights to the land

And for the sin we have committed by championing only the rights of others

For the sin we have committed of forgetting our horrifying historical experience

And for the sin we have committed of comparing ourselves to our persecutors and murderers

For the sin we have committed of denying our legitimate right to liberation

And for the sin we have committed of prioritizing the liberation of others at our expense

For the sin we have committed of lionizing a “Palestinian” state

And for the sin we have committed of opposing a “Jewish” state

For the sin we have committed by seeking to make Israel weaker

And for the sin we have committed by making our enemies stronger

For the sin we have committed by ignoring threats against Jews

And for the sin we have committed by exaggerating threats against Arabs

For the sin we have committed by denigrating the positives

And for the sin we have committed by emphasizing the negatives

For the sin we have committed by calling terrorists “progressives”

And for the sin we have committed by calling soldiers “murderers”

For the sin we have committed by denying Islamist anti-Semitism

And for the sin we have committed by calling Zionism racism

For the sin we have committed by making Israel a partisan issue

And for the sin we have committed by ignoring Israel altogether

For the sin we have committed by abandoning Jewish values in our support of Israel

And for the sin we have committed by abandoning Israel in support of our Jewish values

For the sin we have committed of rejecting Zionist Jews of good faith who disagree with us

And for the sin we have committed of embracing non-Zionist Jews who endanger us

For the sin we have committed by denying the right of Jews to self-defense

And for the sin we have committed by whitewashing violence against us

For the sin we have committed of calling rockets, arson, and bombs “peaceful protest”

And for the sin we have committed of calling terrorists “activists” and “freedom fighters”

For the sin we have committed by disregarding the lives saved by Israel

And for the sin we have committed by disregarding the Israeli lives lost

For the sin we have committed by paying no heed to Jews hiding in shelters

And for the sin we have committed by supporting their attackers

For the sin we have committed by dismissing the fears of our children

And for the sin we have committed by dismissing the sacrifices of our parents

For the sin we have committed by shutting our eyes to Israel’s grandeur

And for the sin we have committed by ignoring the miraculous in Israel’s rebirth

For all these, Forgiving Guardian of Israel, forgive us, pardon us, grant us atonement.
