Abbas’ latest crocodile tears with regards to Israel’s ‘…storming of Al-Aqsa’ in order to neutralize far more deadly series of clashes later in the day would have even a shred of credibility had Abbas, himself, also roundly ‘condemned’ the deliberate and deadly provocations planned and initiated by Palestinians citizens living under the PA government. Abbas can’t simultaneously pretend to be the statesman via his debased whining at the UN while continuing to operate as a pandering tinhorn dictator who actively revises history while inciting and supporting internal violence and chaos in and against Israel.
While Netanyahu and his immediate core coalition members most certainly have personal political responsibility for the current surge in BDS activity driven by their own brand of persistently visionless and leaderless politics, the global community’s credibility would similarly be greatly enhanced were those so constantly ‘horrified’ by Israeli actions also condemn the constant and deadly incitement towards Israel by Abbas, his PA and Hamas alike.
Only when such an epiphany dawns; only once such a dynamic that also clearly and overtly supports Israel’s right to exist in a secure peace will it be possible to then much better demand a mutually coherent and prioritized conversation between Israel and the PA towards a true and honest process which could ultimately lead to Palestinian statehood or, more immediately, far more governmental authority held by the PA. While my confidence in Netanyahu’s honest efforts towards this end is quite limited, I have far less trust still in Abbas and his cronies and none at all vis a vis Hamas.
Were Israel not under threat of and/or experiencing attacks and assault each and every day on its citizens by the PA and those so aligned, the Israeli Right would also not have the constant platform to voice and engage in their own variant of amoral and destructive politics while being able to ignore the future of both Israeli and Palestinian citizens alike.
For the tinhorn Abbas in combination with the deeply mis-prioritized international community’s constant ‘condemnations’ of anything Israel to even include those very much justified as have been today’s on the Temple Mount without holding the PA, interconnected militarized and murderous internal Arab groups and leaders accountable for their constant violence towards Israel demonstrates how little either truly wants real peace or to work towards any kind of shared and mutually coherent political solution.
It is this exactly irresponsible geopolitical behavior, then, which continues to sustain both Abbas and Netanyahu, their own hard Right supporters and sponsors and their respectively visionless, leaderless and equally destructive sanctimonious posturing. Only when Abbas, the PA and Hamas are fully held to their own direct account by so many of those across the global community whose irresponsible and rudderless gaze only falls on Israel will real change be possible.
