Actions vs Words

Action is so much more important than discussion. Discussion is only important if it leads to good actions.
I have a friend who saw someone being taken to the hospital by themselves from her balcony on a Friday afternoon to an unknown hospital and fate.
What would we do in such a situation? Probably call a friend and talk about how it is so sad? That is probably the honest response for most of us. Wonder why there was nobody there? What happened that led to that person being alone in such a situation? These are all typical responses.
My friend, who is a mother of many children and was insanely busy, ran outside and went with the person in the ambulance and offered to stay all of Shabbos. That speaks for itself.
In politics this happens also. Some people talk and talk and others do. Politics should be considered another word for someone’s actual life in fact a lot of someone’s real lives. What do we do to make sure poor people are taken care of? What do we do to make sure discussion turns into something other than oh wow why did that train wreck happen and instead how do we personally prevent that from happening.
It is Adar and Purim is a reminder of the fact that Judaism is about how can we give and what can we do? Will we be the type to talk to no end or to do something active to solve the problem. I hope all of our politicians and journalists on all sides can learn from my friend as much as I have.
