Amazon is closing down Israel’s stores rapidly

I never owned a car so I wasn’t as tempted by spectacular discounts at huge food stores. Now, I sometimes enter such enormous stores to see what’s going on. Everything is in bulk and nothing is really cheap anymore. I still shop at my local grocery store and at the market.

But many consumers started shopping there which uprooted their neighborhood grocery stores. And now the big stores have the customers and in many places, the monopoly, they raised the prices, and the costumers stayed because they have no alternative.

The results: you don’t save money anymore, your local grocery stores are largely gone, you must now shop by car and in bulk (need more kitchen storage place, bigger fridges, and freezers) — all killing the climate.

Many jobs disappear. Jobs in the stores, of the delivery firms supplying the stores, and whole shopping malls will suffer.

This is now happening, under our very eyes, internationally.

Amazon sells us stuff for bargain prices, local Israeli stores are closing, then the prizes will go up and we will have nowhere else to shop anymore.

On top of this — allegedly — Amazon uses the Israeli Postal ‘Service.’ You know, this organization that lets you wait for two hours if you want to buy postal stamps or send a package. And the package, if the receiver lives in the same city, may be underway for 5 weeks. So Amazon is willing to use this ‘service’ on condition that it works fast — which it does, leaving all other senders of packages even more in limbo than ever — allegedly.

Amazon is not serving us, except in the sense of “It’s a cookbook!” It’s serving us as the main course. This can’t be stopped?

However, if you think those are his absolute top priorities, you might end up disappointed. His first loyalty is to the truth. He will try to stay within the limits of democratic and Jewish law, but he won't lie to support opinions or people when don't deserve that. This short list doesn't mean to disrespect others who taught him a lot or a little. One of his rabbis calls him Mr. Innovation [Ish haChidushim]. Yet, his originalities seem to root deeply in traditional Judaism, though they may grow in unexpected directions. In fact, he claims he's modernizing nothing. Rather, mainly basing himself on the basic Hebrew Torah text, he tries to rediscover classical Jewish thought almost lost in thousands of years of stifling Gentile domination and Jewish assimilation. (He pleads for a close reading of the Torah instead of going by rough assumptions of what it would probably mean and before fleeing to Commentaries.) This, in all aspects of life, but prominently in the areas of Free Will, Activism, Homosexuality for men, and Redemption. * He hopes that his words will inspire and inform, and disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.
