Amid the Darkness, We Must Double Down on Hope and Resilience
This year, October 7 changed our world forever. The evil that took place that day—the horror and the darkness—will forever be etched in our minds. Yet, it’s in these darkest moments that our true character, determination, and hope are tested. And it’s in these moments that our Jewish people – and our allies, stand up, care for each other, and face adversity with courage, conviction, and unity.
We must acknowledge the darkness that surrounds us. We cannot afford to ‘sugarcoat’ the evil that exists. However, it is in the same breath that we must also affirm our belief in goodness, in life, and in hope. This dual reality—acknowledging the pain while pursuing resilience—is what defines us.
There is a Chassidic story of a man who writes to his Rebbe expressing anger, depression, and lack of peace. The Rebbe, in response, circles all the “I’s” in the man’s letter. The lesson is clear: the world cannot be understood through the lens of “I.” The path to healing and progress lies in “we.” It’s through collective strength, compassion, and purpose that we find our way out of despair.
That’s the essence of Jewish National Fund-USA and our Zionist movement. Our collective spirit, our shared tears and victories, and our unwavering belief in hope and life, define our mission. We are not just a family; we are a force for good. Together, we refuse to let the darkness win. We push forward with the belief that tomorrow will be better and that, together, we can build a brighter future.
In light of the challenges we face, Jewish National Fund-USA is doubling down on our commitment to rebuilding and reimagining through our Israel Resilience Campaign. Our “Build Together” and “Reimagine” plans are not just initiatives; they are reflections of our belief that we, as a people, can turn tragedy into triumph. Through our “Build Together” campaign, we are working hand-in-hand with communities in the Israel Envelope (formerly known as the Gaza Envelope) to rebuild what has been lost, restore livelihoods, and reinforce the infrastructure necessary for a thriving society.
Our “Reimagine” plan focuses on Israel’s northern regions, areas that have been devastated by conflict. Part of the tragedy is there has been little coverage or awareness about the plight of our family in this region. That’s why Jewish National Fund-USA is bringing displaced residents to the US through our “Reality to Reimagine Caravan,” to share their stories, shining a light on the destruction, and raising awareness about the importance of reimagining the future of Israel’s North. This is about more than just physical rebuilding; it’s about giving people hope for tomorrow, restoring confidence, and reigniting dreams.
We share our blessings, our hopes, and our dreams as a collective. Together, we are greater than the darkness that threatens us. We are greater because we believe in life and living. We are greater because we believe in each other. This shared humanity, this collective spirit, is what makes us strong, and it’s what will guide us through the challenges that lie ahead.
L’Shana Tova—the birthday of the world and humanity—may this new year bring health, happiness, passion, and purpose. May we see the beauty in each other and continue to build, to reimagine, and to share in a conversation about hope and life. Together, we will overcome, and together, we will ensure that light prevails over darkness.
