An Open Letter to the Western World

Dear Western World,

What happened to your moral compass? Where did the rights and privileges of democratic societies go? Currently, you are supporting terrorists who are against democracy. In supporting these terrorists, you are undermining the foundations of western civilization.

I will focus on the issues surrounding the “Selfie Flotilla”.

1. This flotilla is sponsored by Hamas. Israel found documentation in Gaza proving that fact.

2. The flotilla’s stated goal was to break a legal international maritime blockade imposed by both Israel and Egypt against Hamas smuggling since 2007.

3. Although some Western nations sent warships to escort the flotilla, they urged the flotilla to turn around before entering the blockaded area. When the flotilla refused, the Western ships retreated.

4. The flotilla claimed they were bringing humanitarian aid, but when offered the opportunity to transfer the aid to Israel and have it go to Gaza through appropriate channels, they refused. It was later discovered that the ships were not carrying any humanitarian aid.

5. Once the flotilla breached the blockaded area, the Israeli Navy intercepted them and called on the ships to retreat. They did not.

6. As the Israeli Navy boarded the ships, the participants threw their phones into the sea. If they had nothing to hide, why would they need to get rid of their phones? (If you were a climate activist, why would you support polluting the sea with electronics?)

7. The flotilla participants were allowed to take some of their belongings and were given water immediately. When they arrived in Ashdod, they were provided with a medical exam to determine their good health. Why would a participant in the flotilla need to bite a medical professional who was there to help?

8. The flotilla participants were not kidnapped or taken hostage. They were arrested, processed and detained. They were not abused. They were given water and food. (Greta Thunberg complained that she was forced to sit on a hard surface (bench/floor) for a long time. She complained that she was dehydrated, despite photographic evidence that she was given water bottles. She complained that she couldn’t say good-bye to her friends.)

Note: The Israelis taken hostage never got to say good-bye to anyone and are still languishing in horrifying conditions, in terror dungeons underground.

9. Many of these participants have already been deported. Unusually, some of these participants are refusing immediate deportation.

This flotilla was never about aid, it was about creating a publicity storm against Israel, a nation under siege for two years, attacked on every border and vilified internationally.

Western World, if your country were under constant attack, would you allow such a stunt? Of course not.

It is time to wake up. Your double standards are eroding the very values you claim to defend. If democracy, freedom, and human rights matter, they must apply consistently. Stand against terrorism—not with it.
