Anti-Netanyahunists’ flawed premise
Their argument is, that Bibi is doing everything for his own selfish interests. He just wants to stay in power.
The problem with that argument, is that the prime minister’s approach is the right approach. His insistence on wiping out Hamas will eliminate a fundamental threat to Israel’s security.
The argument of the anti-Netanyahunists would only work, if Netanyahu’s actions were detrimental. But if his actions are beneficial and necessary, then their argument is fundamentally flawed.
It’s like arguing that a doctor who is saving lives, is only in it for himself. He wants the money.
If the doctor is saving patients, then he is saving patients. He’s earning a salary while saving parents? That doesn’t make his life-saving efforts wrong. Just the opposite. The money is enabling him to continue saving lives.
Netanyahu’s hold on power enables him to continue to save lives, and to bring peace and security to Israel.
Would the anti-Netanyahunists argue that a mother who disciplines her child is only doing it for the power? Because she wants to run the show? Because she wants to be in charge?
Sure she wants to be in charge. But the reason she wants to be in charge, is so that she can make sure that her child won’t run into the street. Being in charge, having the power, enables her to keep her child safe.
So the fallacy and flaw in the anti-Netanyahunists’ argument is quite clear.
So why do they persist? Some just want to gain power themselves. But some are genuinely torn in anguish over the suffering of the hostages.
But that’s a dilemma that needs to be looked at carefully. What would military experts (who are unbiased politically) say? If they say that allowing Hamas to exist would be a clear and present danger against Israel, then you don’t save twenty lives by sacrificing many more G-d forbid.
It’s bitter. Some decisions are not easy.
Regarding the future, Israel should institute the death penalty against terrorists. So that there would be less incentive to kidnap hostages (in order to trade for imprisoned terrorists).
But as for now, Israel’s government is focused on saving Israel, by destroying Hamas. And with the Almighty’s help, we will succeed.
