The Italian Senate has voted down a law that would make attacks on women, LGBTQ+, and disabled people a hate crime. And where are the protests? Where are the Internet news outlets reporting this?
Again, we see how sexism—not just racism—kills. The ‘who cares [not me]’ attitude is what killed the Holocaust’s Six Million, more than Antisemitism.
When a handful of men are criminally castrated (!), that’s newsworthy. When women are not considered at the mercy of men, it’s not.
Wildlife shouldn’t just be protected—their fate is newsworthy. Protection of women is not.
Surely, minorities must be protected too, but that’s a moot point if even women are not. Reminds me of the decriminalization of domestic violence in Russia.
Feminism should not be solely on the agenda of the ultra-left-wing. The legal protection of more than 50% of humanity must be carried by the majority of men and women. Women are people, remember?
We must insist that the news outlets we use to inform us will carry this terrible news immediately.
And so, we see: no democracy/equality without freedom of the press and no free press without freedom of speech that enables us to insist on getting well informed.
