Arrivals
I’m fully aware of the many serious problems facing this small nation. But, please don’t trivialize the one that I’m going to address here and now. It’s life threatening too although it’s not our enemies who are pursuing us and our very existence. It’s our own Airport Authority. Listen in!
A few days ago my husband and I, both in our mid 80s, arrived on these shores, again. We’re commuters and citizens, if that matters……and it shouldn’t, and have done this scene many hundreds of times since the very early 1970s. We land with only hand luggage, but with still not koach, energy, to deal with the wonderful train that requires us to maneuver in a state of exhaustion with said hand luggage and then deal with it on the train. So, the train is not for us.
We no longer rent a car since the prices and the parking are not supportive of that endeavor.
That leaves taxis. Woe is me. Does anyone care or notice how few cabs line up at the airport in relation to how many passengers are awaiting them? It is absolutely staggering. Waits can easily equal multiple hours of standing outdoors no matter what the weather, and with nary a bench or seat for any of them.
The dispatchers will often provide assistance to the obviously handicapped, if asked, and only if asked. Otherwise the old and sick are left to fend for themselves in the same abysmal conditions!
For most of those on line there are no alternatives. The train serves the major cities but never the small towns. And negotiating the train with children in tow and several large pieces of luggage is a desperate situation with no obvious recourse.
I regard the present situation as untenable. People can actually die while waiting for their taxis.
Yes, I know there are other major issues in this little place we love. But any problem that can cost lives due to negligence is a serious problem! There must be geniuses out there who can devote some effort to easing the travelling public’s burden. Even Nesher has deserted us! I ask all of our problem solvers to devote some energy to this issue which sounds minor but is truly not!
