Ben G. Yacobi

As I Run My Time Down

As I run my time down,
I wonder what was vital in life,
Counting out the days and nights,
Unaware of the final date,
Drawn to the beauty all around.

I run my time down,
The clock grows slower now,
Yet the days pass faster,
One sunrise, one sunset,
Until I lose count altogether.

My time runs down.
With no future left to hold,
Thoughts are anchored in the past,
Where warmth remains,
My mother’s love, her smiling face.

Time runs out.
She extends her arms wide,
Waiting at the door of home,
A sun-drenched corridor beyond,
Lined with pictures on every wall.
