Attacks Against Gal Have Nothing To Do With Colour

In recent days there has been something of an ‘explosion’ in some sections of the media (social and mainstream) when it was announced that Gal Gadot, an Israeli actress, would play Cleopatra in an upcoming movie.

“It’s a backward step for Hollywood representation!” screamed the Guardian in outrage – the same paper that often likes to talk about how the incessant hatred against Israel has nothing to do with Jews.

“It’s whitewashing!” yelled others. How dare a ‘white’ actress play an Egyptian princess, chanted some ‘social justice warriors,’ while beating their chests in agony.

Now, notwithstanding the fact that Cleopatra wasn’t even Egyptian, and notwithstanding the fact that the job of an actor is to play other people, this story is not about Gal Gadot. And it’s not about Cleopatra either.

It’s not even about skin colour!

It’s about the same thing now that it’s always been about before – the constant and incessant attempt to erase Jewish identity and delegitimise the Jewish people in the eyes of the world.

Because don’t be fooled into thinking that the reason so much outrage has been generated is because a so-called ‘white’ person is playing a so-called ‘black’ person.

Historically Jews have never been seen as white. For the neo-Nazis and the racists, Jews have only ever been considered a mud race. And for the Black Lives Matter, BDS and other similar fascist movements, Jews have only even been seen as white colonialists who steal the poor innocent brown peoples’ land.

But it’s not just the extremists from both sides – sadly it’s part of what some would consider the moderates too. Just the other day, European colonialist powers such as Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Spain expressed their outrage at Israel building homes in Judea and Samaria – land that has been Jewish for thousands of years. Perhaps their outrage is only that indigenous people are building in their own lands – for these very same powers had perfected the art of murder and destruction of untold millions of indigenous people whereever they decided to expand their empires by force. A simple investigation into the colonial history of these countries will leave the most hard hearted person shocked as to the barbarism they visited upon decent innocent people all in the name of their empires.

And yet, despite their dark and nefarious past, they still maintain an absolute arrogance in declaring themselves moral torch bearers in deciding whether Jews have a legitimate right to their own land – let alone their own history and own identity.

This is a battle that did not begin with Gal Gadot, for that is just the latest chapter in a very long book that began long before the name Cleopatra was ever known.

From time immemorial there have been attempts by many to remove the Jewish people from the face of the earth – physically and spiritually. The Greeks tried to do it by forcing us to adopt their customs and banning our own. The Egyptians tried to do it by killing our first borns and turning us into slaves. The Church tried to do it by forcing us to convert or face torture and death. They told us we were going to hell and we had to shun our Jewish selves to be allowed to enter society. We were forced to live apart in ghettos and shtetls so as not to infect others. But when even that was too much we were expelled and the list of countries that did that goes on and on and on and along with the pogroms and the murders and the torture and the genocide – it’s endless.

None of that was because we were white or black or any other colour – it’s because we were Jews and in their eyes, we did not deserve the legitimacy of existing in the world – in their world.

It’s not a colour thing, but a Jewish thing.

Even today, in America, there is an agenda and a real concerted effort, mainly from the left, to change how Jews think about themselves. I have lost count of the number of fake Jews – yes fake Jews – those who claim to be Jewish, but do not qualify through any Jewish law, preaching to Jews on bogus theories of how Jews benefit from some made up fantasy of Jewish privilege that never existed before in history.

There is a certain irony that many of those on the left, who always talk about being against racism, are the most racist of all – obsessed with skin tones and skin colour and the blood that flows through our bodies.

These sentiments are also echoed by naive Jews who have been taken in by these charlatans and led to believe that we have to somehow apologize for existing in the first place. It is a tragedy that in their eyes we can only ever be accepted as Jews by rejecting our very selves, rejecting our nation and our history and our heritage – thereby achieving the ultimate goal of our enemies.

The outrage against Gal Gadot didn’t have anything to do with skin colour, but rather that fact that a Jew – a proud Israeli Jew in particular – could achieve and continue to achieve a place of such prominence in the entertainment world and in society as a whole.

We are supposed to be a people deemed illegal by so many. A people with no rights and no land and no claims and no legitimacy and whenever anyone of us makes any kind of mark in society, you can be sure as night follows day, that the haters will be out to question how a people who were supposed to disappear into the night – continue to shine brightly throughout the day. ’
