Bad Business Ethics

There is a curse used in the Gemara regarding a person who reneges or misleads another Jew in a business deal. He might be exempt from a monetary obligation, but he has still acted deceitfully in not fulfilling his implied obligation.
The curse is referred to as מי שפרע, literally, “the One who paid. The Beit Din will issue this curse to that dishonest individual. They will say, “May the One who paid back the generation of the flood and the generation that built the Tower of Babel, also pay you back for your improper behavior.”
The question is asked why both generations of flood and Babel, are both mentioned in the curse. Rav Asher Weiss explained that the generation of the flood had caused their own demise primarily because of theft. They were guilty in the area of sins between man and man. The generation of the Tower of Babel had sinned against G-d. Their arrogance and outright audacity, led them to believe that they could wage war against Hashem and win.
When one acts dishonestly in business, he has sinned against both man and G-d. He has cheated another person in money matters which is a reprehensible thing to do. But especially if he professes to be an observant Jew, he has also sinned against G-d.
Dishonesty in business matters is considered one of the greatest acts of desecrating the Name of G-d.
This explains why the curse given in court refers to both the generation of the flood as well as the generation of the Tower of Babel. He has sinned against man, and he has also sinned against Hashem.
