But then I watched the broadcast of Ilana Dayan on Channel 12 and everything changed. I would like to start off this blog with the paragraphs shown below the dashed line shown below, before I publish the original blog (dated 11 December 2023) shown below the second dashed line.

On Thursday night I watched “Uvda” Ilana Dayan’s program on the six young Israelis who were murdered by Hamas terrorists. To come right the point with no explanation other than -Watch the program broadcast by Channel 12 on Thursday night. I would like to make the following comments.
I think the Prime Minister of Israel should have published the following statement immediately after that program ended.
“I, Benyamin Netanyahu, the Premier of Israel finally resign from the office of Premier. I take full responsibility for all of the acts of my government in the past three years. I apologize to the victims of 7 October 2023 and what followed afterwards. I will begin the process of establishing a traditional Judicial Investigation Commission to investigate what happened before, during and after 7 October 2023.”
He did not make that statement!!!!

“SENSE OF DECENCY”
A few days ago the Minister of Internal Security Itama Ben Gvir who is pushing for a new death penalty law for terrorists appeared on television here in Israel, with other members of his party, wearing a new pin, which is essentially a hanging noose. It is as if it represents a replacement of the pin. that millions of Israelis have been wearing for almost two years, representing the wish for the return of all of the Israeli (and other) hostages taken by Hamas on 7 October 2023.
And the first association that came to my mind when I saw the new pin, was how much it resembles the double lightening pin worn by the SS officers eighty-five years ago, which has always been associated with the cruelty and inhumanity of the people who wore it! And my first thought was, have we gone mad -is this the Israel of the future-do I want to live here-do I want my children and grandchildren to live here where are leaders where hanging noose pins? Do I want to be a citizen of this new Israel?
We-my family- have now been here for three generations – and we have served as officers in combat units, as reservists until the age of fifty and in other important units in the defense forces. In all this time I knew that this is my home -I came here as a Jew fifty-five years ago to live as a proud Jew in the home of the Jews! And if necessary to defend the Jewish People living here!
And now our government has members wearing hanging nooses, and the head of the government of Israel says nothing. He has added a new sin to all the other sins he has committed during the past few years. Has he brought us to the level of the minds of those people who wore the SS pin while killing our people eighty years ago!
I would like to quote Joseph Welch, who was a lawyer for the American Army during the McCarthy hearings of the early 1950’s, in the USA. McCarthy had just accused one of the young lawyers who worked for Welch of being a Communist, and Welch who could no longer contain his anger answered McCarthy and said, “Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness.” It was then McCarthy’s turn to be stunned into silence, as Welch asked, “Have you no sense of decency, sir, …?”
That says it all as I look at our present government as it reaches rock-bottom, “Have you no sense of decency?”
Using the hanging noose as a symbol of a law which you want to pass in our Knesset, really makes that simple question of Welch , of more that seventy years ago relevant to us here in Israel today.
Do we want to live in, and defend a country which uses hanging nooses as a symbol to be worn by its leaders?
It is time to stop the degradation of our national and historic Jewish values before it will be too late. And before many of our young people will vote with their feet and leave us (a process which has already started!) because they do not want to live in and fight for a country whose leaders have lost all their “sense of decency”
It is time for Bibi to resign and give us a chance to elect a new government to give us a new start. It is time that he makes the statement shown at the beginning of this blog!!!
