In recent days, the Prime Minister of Israel is once again confronting the American administration. The Americans who prevented the expansion of the war against Israel to additional fronts after October 7.
The Americans stood behind Israel from day one. Immediately an American destroyer arrived in the area, President Biden spoke right after the events and made it clear to Iran and Hezbollah – don’t try us. The Americans prevented a great destruction in Israel. at least for now.
But the American government and all our friends in the West thought like any reasonable person that after the massacre that took place on October 7th, like any normal country, the public would throw out the leader who bears the responsibility and his accomplices.
But in Israel? Nothing. All those who were in charge are still sitting in the same chairs more than 100 days later and nothing is shaking their seats.
The American presidents, Biden and Trump before him, know what to expect from Netanyahu. Nothing. This is a man who cannot be trusted. The man lies when he breathes. That is why the headlines that talk about “disappointment with Netanyahu” are inaccurate. The main disappointment is from the Israeli public.
It is clear to the American administration that Netanyahu has no ability to make a deal for the hostages with Hamas, which will include the release of some or all of the Palestinians who are in Israeli prison. So the future of the Israeli hostages is bleak.
It is true that we are all still in post-trauma from the events of October 7th and we have not yet recovered. A significant part of the citizens of Israel is directly related to the thousands of victims, hundreds of thousands were evacuated from their homes in the south and north and still cannot return home, and a large portion served or is still serving in the reserves and we are all worried every day over the fate more than 100 Israeli hostages and also big question marks regarding the future of this country.
This is probably the main reason why all those in charge, first and foremost the Prime Minister – are still sitting on their thrones. There are few people who can leave and travel to Jerusalem with a torch and a pitchfork.
The credit that Israel has in the US is not infinite. The USA has entered an election year. Among the Democrats, significant portions are critical of Israel and its actions in Gaza. On the Republican side, with the expected candidate being former President Donald Trump, who has already expressed his disappointment with Netanyahu and his past conduct. The leash we get from our big sister the USA is shorter than 2 or 3 months ago.
Israel is in real trouble. If Israel does not get rid of this government and its leader soon, we will lose the backing of the US. And with each passing day, the current government continues to destroy any chance of the State of Israel getting out of this crisis and rebuilding itself. This is no longer The Shock Doctrine. It is already killing the patient definitively.
If the majority of the public does not rise up and remove this prime minister in the near future, if only to bring about a deal for the release of the hostages, it is not certain that we will be able to recover as a country and as a society.
