Blame the Jews

An Al Jazeera opinion piece by Somdeep Sen published today repeats the antisemitic tropes that puts the blame squarely on Israel for the horrific surprise terror attacks conducted by Hamas.

What are the Jews guilty of? Some fringe Jewish groups are building houses where they claim we don’t belong and trying to pray where we are not welcome.

These so-called crimes justify Hamas’ murder and kidnapping of Israeli civilians including elderly, women and children.

Antisemites like Jeremy Corbyn and self-hating Jews like Bernie Sanders love to talk about Gaza being an open-air prison. While it may be a prison for the vast majority of Palestinians living there under Hamas rule, it is no prison for Hamas leadership. The leaders of Hamas live in beautiful villas.

Let’s not forget that Hamas was democratically elected in 2006 to rule Gaza. Upon winning the democratic election, they started murdering anyone who opposed them. No more elections needed.

Yet Hamas continues to receive support. Support of their narrative that the Jews are to blame for the suffering of Palestinians inside Gaza and the disputed territories.

Time to change the narrative. Time to stop blaming the Jews for Palestinian suffering. Corrupt, evil leadership of both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority are to blame for the suffering of the Palestinian people. Only when the world stops blaming the Jews will we be able to achieve peace with our Palestinian cousins.
